2003 bmw 3251 90,000 mi

Lights on these cars all run through an LKM box = light control module. It's purpose is to turn on a warning on the dash when some bulb is not working, and all models up to 1994 have terrible problems with failing headlamps, turn signals, brake lights, etc.due to poor solder joints in these modules. Very common for headlamps to fail driving down the road, or fail when changing from dim to bright. It is possible to repair by heating and re-soldering every connection in the box, but far easier to get one from a 1994 or later junk car, if you can find one.

have your brake pads checked that a brake pad warning light

The brake warning light is for the hydraulic system.
It could be low on fluid or several other things. There may also be a warning light for a dead brake or tail light.

If the brake lining indicator is staying on consistently, then it is possible for your brake warning to come on as well. It is an additional warning to have the brakes repaired if needed, and if the fluid in the reservoir gets low to compensate for the worn brakes, then it can cause the light to come on as well.

partially remove the desired light by remove the 4 8mm screws, two ont the top and two at bottom behing the light, pull the light out far enough that you can see the socket,you should be able to remove it at that point.You should also check the contact of the bulb as it is most likely burned or melting and has damaged the socket so you should replace he socket and bulb as the warning may still be present even though the bulb works.Also the rear tail lights have a corrosion and burning issue as well on the brake contacts.

The brake pads have sensors in them, when the pads get worn down to the sensor the light comes on letting you know its time to replace. this happens well before the pads are completely gone to reduce wear on the rotors. You should have the brakes replaced and the sensor also.

hi..Your break light sensor/switch is sticking. It's usually
located on the floor of the vehicle behind the brake pedal.
Spray some WD-40 on it and see.

What it sounds like to me is that they didn't replace the "brake sensors" when they did the job. They are a seperate part and if whomever changed your brakes didn't charge you, I think like $20, for the part, then that's the problem.

I dunno if this will work on your BMW, but on my BMW Z3 and M3, it was....

Turn the ignition key to position 2, but do NOT start the car. Wait for about 45 seconds and the brake warning message will be reset.

If it doesn't reset, then the brake sensor was damage. You will need to replace the brake sensor. It sounds like you replace the brake right after you saw the warning, so the brake sensor should be okay.
