Recently car rolled back into a pole, doing medium damage to trunklid and bumper. Sometimes when I hit a pothole or bump in the road, I hear a strange hollow thud sound that echos through the car. Kind of sounds like "ka-boing" but it really echos unlike the sound of just hitting a hole or bump. Did not do this before the accident. What could this be? Again sounds like my car is turned into a large bell that gets struck with a hammer.

Look under the hood for something bent and rubbing against the belts on the front of the engine.
SOURCE: 2002 jetta tdi airbags problems
It is not supposed to be possible for the airbags to deploy when the car isnt moving. Sounds like the car had a defective airbag system, Just be grateful it never blew up while you were behind the wheel. If it were me I would contact VW and see if they are willing to help you. And if you decide to replace the airbags, I would fight like crazy with the insurance company to have every aspect of the airbag system replaced(all sensors and computers associated with it). If you are in America, your state has an attorney generals office, If no one is willing to work with you, A friendly and concise letter to the attorney general usually straightens everyone up.
SOURCE: 2002 VW Passat GLX. Burnt oil smell from engine when I hit a bump
I had this problem with my passat... the valve cover gasket is slightly leaking. If you take the big plastic piece off the top of the motor (4 plastic fake screws you just have to twist) you can see along the edge of the valve cover if there is oil or not. Mine wasn't bad, but was doing the same thing you describe. Here is a write up on how to do it... really easy (http://www.taligentx.com/passat/maintenance/valvecovergasket/) or you can get a Chilton manual which will show you how to do lots of things yourself, usually $30-$40 for the book.
SOURCE: My car sounds like a bell!
I would suggest checking to see if you bent the exhaust when it hit the pole. The 1992 camaro has very little room for the exhaust system to run over the rear axle to start with it would not take much to make it hit under the car
Testimonial: "Actually it did bend the exhaust, knocked it back about 6 inches, had that fixed. That was my first thought as well... keep trying. :)"
