Check the battery like this:
Turn on the headlights, then try to start the car.
If the headlights do not dim or go out, then the battery is likely ok.
Check that the battery cable plus post, goes to the starter, Minus post to a good ground, like the engine.
If wiring is ok, then look at the starter solenoid for a good connection.
Problem is most likely the Solenoid or starting relay, whichever the car uses.
Hope this helps.

Check battery connections, if they are good check the power supply from the battery to starter motor (thick cable), if this is good have someone crank it while you check the signal wire to the starter motor(thin wire), if this is good replace the starter motor. u could tap the starter motor with a hammer if accessible while someone is cranking it, sometimes this will get the starter going again but will still need replacing

SOURCE: wont start

sounds like your not getting power to the starter. check the connections on the battery and the starter to see if any thing is loose. if not you could try taking off the starter, and taking it to a part store and have them test it.

first thing you got to do is determen weather its electrical or fuel problem, you can take a test light and hook to a ground and the light end to a spark plug and see if it lights while someone turns over engine, if it lights you got spark. if its got spark, on to fuel, take fuel pressure test, don't think because you can hear pump working does not mean it is, it can sound like it is but its not, at least putting out enought pressure, not the correct amount it will not run. pumps will go out just that way with no warning at all.

SOURCE: my 1997 dodge stratus 2.4l 4cylinder wont start

check your relay box (under the hood black box) for corrosion, just had that on my van and it was a blown relay fuse from a bad connector. Also there might be an issue with the distributor itself (the thing the coil conects to) as that is symptomatic of that. To start- and for sake of ease- wiggle the black box after reseating the fuses (not the clear top ones yyou can see them blown without removing) give the box a good wiggle and a tap or two (not he-man taps mind you) while someone tries to start it. if this all is useless please let me know.

You must perform an engine control module fault code test as well as test the fuel pressure, if no codes are present and fuel pressure is ok check for a defective camshaft drive belt.

Check the starter motor. Many times they go on there own with no sign, and having someone crank it while using something to tap it often helps it turn over.

Honestly, that sounds bad-loud knocking that gets worse, then no start-does it sound normal when it cranks? Does it crank freely? Is your battery in good condition? More information is needed...

Engine is cranking, but it wont turn over

Good for you as you already have an idea.

Check your battery and the starter. It's a minor issue.
