Once the wipers are on there is a knocking from the dash that can be felt in the steering wheel and pedals. This is intermittent and does not seem to be when the wipers are at a particular stage e.g. the top/bottom. Sometimes it is even just after the wipers have come to rest on intermittent.
Sounds like the wipers are over working or not secured properly, This can over work the motor for the wipers. Try checking the bolts connecting the wipers and the blades on the wipers for good contact this will be a good starting point.
