I figure it has something to do with the IAC since replacing the valve seemed to be a temporary fix, but its way too soon for this to be causing problems again. Could the IAC problem be secondary to something else? HELP!
It could be a new bad IAC motor...especially if its an aftermarket brand!! something like that even though the part is a little more expensive go with OEM jeep parts, especially electrical stuff.
Thanks for the suggestion. I will check with my mechanic to see which part he used.
IF he did use the OEM Jeep parts, is it a possibility he didnt clean the throttle body? I would hate to suggest that of my reliable mechanic, but that is the only other thing i can think of. Would that cause the valve to get "clogged" again so quickly?
Check the idle speed when you first start it cold if its high and drops to 500 rpms after it warms up try the temputure sensor

If you have a high idle at cold start up and it drops to 500 rpms when it warms up try a cooler thermostat and temputure sensor this will raise the idle

Before you go changing the idle motor, clean the throttle body out with a spray cleaner and make sure you get into the idle speed motor orifice. Spray the cleaner into the throttle body with the engine off, do'nt be afraid to use it all then let it sit awhile. When you try to start the car it might not want to start, just keep your foot all the way down on the gas pedal and as it starts and clears up just release the pedal slowly. If the car smokes out of the exhaust, thats normal. Hope this works.

The idle air control valve is located on the back of the throttle body. It has an oval electrical connector and two torx screws holding it in. Unplug the connector, remove the two screws then lightly tap the body with a soft faced mallet to loosen it from the body.
Once you have it out and prior to installing a new valve clean the seat inside the throttle body where the idle control fits. This must be very clean! Installation is in the reverse order.
To save some cash, pull the valve out and clean it with throttle body cleaner, this usually fixes the problem for quite a while.
Good luck and hope this helps.

make sure your idle air control motor is working, if you give and hold gas pedal a little will it stay running in drive.

Yes its possible that PCM, is issue, but its not possible that PCM is issue.---------
Do you notice the difference after replacing the idle, was the idle high or low before replacing the IAC valve? And did the idle problem solved after replacing the IAC valve.-----------
The check engine light will need to be reset with a scan tool, or you can wait and the computer will reset after the computer has seen that the problem is gone for a certain amount of starts. This is assuming that the IAC was actually the problem, there are other causes that can cause this code to set but if the idle was to high and now it is good the problem is likely fixed. some times it takes approx next 100 or 50 drive cycles to automatically reset the code.------------
But if you still notice the idle problem, even after replacing the IAC valve, then other possible causes for this same error code P0505 are:---
