Hi, the 2.8 pajero has been making a whistling noise for the last couple of months but with no loss of power at all. Yesterday there was a sudden noticeable power loss, the engine kept cutting out and it had trouble revving. Do I need a new turbo or could it be something else? Thanks.

hi you need to change the fuel pump seals, whats happening is there letting in air causing engine to cut out a commom fault with this vehicle.

Have a look at the thermostat.
If it's blocked shut, there won't be the circulation through the rad.
You may need to invest in some 'radweld' type treatment too.
Good luck with that.
Don't forget to rate, thanks ;)

I am not familiar with the 407 but I would think it is a HDi, if so what you describe is an air leak from a pipe from the pressure side of the turbo, I have had this on a Saab, in that case there was an over pressure switch under the dash and the pipe fell off. Look at the top of the engine, on the inlet side there will be a pipe from the inlet trunking or manifold, it should (maybe with a tee piece in there) go through the bulkhead
