I need the timing marks for a 2000 escort with sigle over head cam.

timeing mark for the top is located on the upper cam in the center of the wheel is a lil spike that lines up with a dot on the head behind the timeing cover lower timeing mark is located on lower crank u will see a notch in the crank while looking from the top of the motor line those 2 up they both should be pointing up

There are no marks. You have to use a lock tool in the cams. Click on my profile and look at the how-to's I've written for instructions on replacing the timing belt on this car.

The timing marks are on the timing cover for the crank pulley, and on the cyl head for the cam

valve timing marks on back of cams ,a slot on back of cam has to level with the head ,crank timing on the flywheel ,hole in bellhousing

MAKE SURE YOU SET THE CRANK PULLEY A 0 ON THE TIMING MARK CHECK YOUR CAM PULLEYS AND MAKE SURE THE DOTS LINE UP WITH THE AROWS AS WELL USE A WHITE MARKER SO IF SOME THING MOVES YOU CAN SEE WERE IT STARTED FROM SET THE TENSION OF THE BELT SO IT IS JUST FIRM DOUBLE CHECK YOU TIMMING MARKS AND REASSEMBLE

i think you will need new valves if pulley come loose.timing marks on end of cams a slot on each cam ,the flats have to be level with the head,i use a piece of flat old ally bar for this.

On the CAM it is a DOT and should be Pointed Straight UP. And On tha CRANK its a LINE that should also be pointed STRAIGHT UP. NOTE ::: There are Marks BOTH on the HEAD for the CAM And BLOCK for the CRANK

a friend of mine set the crankshaft, it turns out that the key-way is on top and is the mark for the lower part. we looked in the haynes manual for the top cam-shaft's. we never had a cam-shaft alignment tool but found a scrap piece of metal that worked perfectly for the cam-shaft alignment. the timing belt is on one side of the engine and on the other side of the cam-shafts are slots where the cam-shaft alignment tool, you have a 25% chance of getting it right and we got lucky on the 1st try, thanx any way.
