The timing marks are a arrow on your cam gear, and a dot on your cylinder head; align them.
Your crank gear has a tab, and the engine has a groove; align them.
After aligning the marks and putting your timing belt on, turn the engine 2 complete turns to insure the marks are still aligned; As long as the marks still align, you're done.
