We own a 2001 Jeep Grand Cherokee Laredo. The cruise control is not setting anymore, the air conditioning and heat are blowing through the defroster and not through the remaining vents. Occasionally, the brake light will not work on the driver's side although the light has been changed. Could these things be related? We looked inside the dash and there is vacumn suction to the main wire going to the heater control switch but the individual ones on each of the positions don't appear to be getting suction (i.e. when we turn it to the other positions such as to the front vents or to the floor, no air comes through those vents, only through the defroster vents. Please help, it hit 94 degrees here today?
There is a vacuum leak under the hood somewhere. Check the vacuum at the speed control servo. If there is no vacuum on the line with the engine running, follow the line to find the leak. The vacuum reservoir is mounted under the battery tray. I would look in that area after confirming no vacuum at the servo.

Exact same issue with my 2001 GC. The vacuum hose slipped off the intake manifold. Replaced the old piece of hose (approx 4") and all was corrected. I never would have found it without reading "Solutions 1" and the extra post on the 2002 GC
