Means that you have a transmissions code set. Have code retrieve. the pcm is in fault mode and no second gear or tcc apply or else.If code set the check engine light on is repair then the second gear be on again.

SOURCE: 1995 gmc yukon.third gear & od slips doesn't

It sounds like your Yukon is running on the limp mode. On the limp mode, the truck will not go pass third gear. it could be as simple as tune up such as getting a miss fire will cause your Yukon to go in the limp mode.
Not sure if your Yukon is still running OBD1 system, that year was the change over year. Here is a link if it is a ODB1 system for you go retrieve the DTC codes. http://www.troublecodes.net/GM/ If your Yukon is on the OBD2 system, then your going to have to get it scanned. I believe Auto Zone can scan it for you free of charge.
Good luck and hope this helps you out, Oh and Auto Zone has the step by step instruction to the repairs need to be done to your Yukon.

SOURCE: I have a 1995 GMC Jimmy with auto trans., it wont

Your going to have to get the Jimmy scaned before youhurt the transmission, It sounds like it's on a Limp mode which can range from a tune up to a bad ground. Good luck.

Testimonial: "Thanks for the info. I ended up sell the jimmy and passed on the info to the buyer they also found it helpful."

SOURCE: 1 st gear ok 2nd gear loses power rpm goes high

Check engine light on?

Is it a manual or auto? Assuming its a manual, is there an ABS light on? If so or if you hace changed the brake pads recently or even had the tires off or rotated, there could be a problem in the brake pad sensor or abs wheel speed sensor.

Check with Porsche service (your closest dealer) for recalls or TSB (Technical Service Bulletins) related to your concern and check the cayman/boxster owners clubs for similar posts and resolutions.

Hope that helps.

I belive the speed sensor broke because runs fine on the 1st gear and 2nd gear are fine when is time for 3rt it change to 3rt but rpm goes up and reject it and goes back to 2nd pretty much i can go...

take all wheels off the ground use jack stand, start engine up and put car in drive and let it run for about 5 mins, with wheel off the ground it should shift gears better, if it do you to change your transmission filter and oil, VERY IMPORTANT TO CHANGE OIL WHILE IT IS HOT! check oil to make sure no metal is in oil or heavy shavings, if shavings or metal is present you need new tranny, measure the amount of oil you take out put same amount back in, i really dont think you got a speed sensor problem you might have too much milage on your yukon, hay mon sure you service your yukon on time or else ford will excort you home, good luck mon and big up u self

Does the trany fluid smell burnt? Might want to have the trany flushed - torque converter too - and replace the filter in the trans. FYI you may know this but it is not recomended that overdrive be enabled when pulling a trailer - especially a heavily loaded one. Does your town have lots of hills - this is an added stain on the trany.

1998 Yukon high idle sound with bad gas mileage.

What you have is the torque converter clutch, cycling on and off.
When it is off.your rpm will go up and your milage will go down
First-check to see if your brake switch, on the back of the brake peddle, is loose or misadjusted. When you apply the brakes, the first thing to happen, is that you unlock the converter,so your trans is not connected directly to the motor,or you would stall. Then below 42 MPH,your trans is working off the converter, as a pressure multiplier ,based on rpm
Second- switch okey. You remove trans pan and change TCC Solenoid.

Let me know if if you need more guidance
