I have a problem in my 1993 BMW 318ia gearbox that went into lump mode from time to time. My engine is the B18M40 and the Gearbox is the GM A4S270R. The Scanner showed Error P40 - Pressure Regulator. The mechanics recommended changing the gearbox while i am not convinced to do so, as the shifting quality is still so smooth, but the reverse shifting is a bit slow about 2 seconds to shift. What would you recommend, waiting for your kind reply,
Yes it is the limp mode, when the gearbox stop responding and drives only on the 3rd gear. The problem will be solved after a shutdown and a restart of the car.Yes it is the limp mode, when the gearbox stop responding and drives only on the 3rd gear. Thank u for the information, is it pressure regulator it self that i should look after or its solenoid (DR). By the way i did mention the error code in my first PostThank u for the information, is it pressure regulator it self that i should look after or its solenoid (DR). then that is the cause of the problem, find out the problem with the trans pressure regulator (it may really have low pressure) and you will fix the problem, in the future always post all the information, we are not mind readers, we do this for free on our personnel time.then that is the cause of the problem, find out the problem with the trans pressure regulator (it may really have low pressure) and you will fix the problem, in the future always post all the information, we are not mind readers, we do this for free on our personnel time.

The EH gearbox switch serves to communicate with the TCM (Trans Control Mod). In A mode, it tells the TCM to operate in the most economical shifting program. M mode is for manual shift. If you have a * instead of a M, it stands for winter mode. This mode causes the vehicle to start off in 2nd so that torque is reduced thus reducing wheel spin on slick surfaces. Of course, by shifting into 4 or 3 puts you into sport mode for a more spirited shift pattern.
The ABS control unit does need to be coded to the vehicle. After coding the control unit, an End-Belt run test must be performed. I know that you will also have transmission faults stored, because the Trans warning is set since the control unit has not been coded
and the control units communicate constantly during engine operation. The trans uses abs input for shift characteristics and helps with power reduction during evasive driving control. A dealer should be able to code and perform the end run test and usually charge about an 1hr fee. They will also need to quick delete other fault memories.
Solution in problem with the occasional when dash kick it and restart in Safe Mode - make use your car on I-BUS RESET. What vibration with gearbox covers, I do not think it will be bad gearbox mountings. I suggest to the transmission delete the current
adaptation, what it learned the transmission unit - to factory defaults, this is the "0" value adaptation! Use a longer test road and the new
adaptation have to loaded! Unfortunately, this operation is only diagnostic tools possible. It's a job for a professional garage
The gearbox is that big, funky-shaped lump of metal attached to your engine. It has shafts coming out of it, going to the wheels. I've never heard of a spanner.

The trouble code is 40 - Pressure Regulator
