You need to spin it as you push it in. Go to advance/autozone and get the rear brake loaner tool. Its part of their loaner tool program and doe snot cost anything after you bring it back.

SOURCE: Replacing rear brake pads on 2006 Freestar ..piston won't move back with c clamp

I just had this problem myself. I ended up removing the caliper completely and drained it of all of it's fluid. I then held it in my hand and used an 2" round bar to beat the piston back down. once you break it loose it goes fairly easy. then bolt it all back up and bleed the brakes

Hubby is trying to replace rear brakes on my 2006 Ford Freestar. Please help!

I'm sure he is trying to figure out how to get the piston into the caliper.

the piston will have to be turned and pressed in at the same time. You could try to muscle it in with a pair of needle nose pliers but this will not be fun and you run the risk of damaging the piston or seal.

a generic tool like the one above is available at most auto parts stores.

Rear pisttons on ford 500 will not push in to install rear brake pads

If you have disk brakes, and you cannot fit the new brake pads in the callipers? Loosen the brake fluid reservoir cap to allow pressure to escape. Use a large C clamp connecting it to the front and back of the piston. Turn the screw on the clamp to compress the brake piston then release the clamp. The piston will remain compressed allowing you the fit the housing over the new brake pads.

How do i replace front pads; 2006 mustang v-6

Jack up car and used jack stands, remove both caliper bolt's, you will need a c-clamp to compress caliper piston in, used one of the old brake pads in front of the piston then press piston in with c-clamp, install new pads and do the same at other side, before moving car pump brake peddle till it get's hard and your done, good luck.

How do I get the rear brake cylinder depress back in when putting on new brakes.

If it does not push back with a c-clamp,then it will turn to go back in,the right side, and the left side will turn either left,or right hand to go back in,depending on witch side you are working on.

How to replace rear brake pads

Jack up car, remove wheel. There are two bolts that hold the caliper on. Remove these. Caliper comes off, take old pads out. There is a special tool to compress the piston back into the caliper (do not use a C Clamp on the rears.) Put new pads back on, re-install the caliper, and put the wheel back on. Pump the brake pedal until it is firm. Done.

Hi im trying to replace brake pads on the rear of my ford focus 2006 st3

if you are having problems with getting the piston to move back to fit the pads in, you need to screw the piston in using an allen key.
if you have forcefully tried to push it in it may be permanently damaged.

Ford Freestyle rear pad and rotor replacement

Most Fords I've worked on have a screw-in rear caliper design. Look at the caliper piston - do you see two notches on the face, across from each other? Those are the keyholes for screwing the piston back in. AutoZone rents/loans the piston retractor tool (leave them the full value of the kit, about $40, take it home and use it, then return it and get 100% of your money back). Simply fit the proper sized key disc onto the tool and screw it back into the caliper, and you're done.
