There are a few different things that can cause your problem. When the problem is occurring, disconnect the alternator plug, start the engine and measure voltage with a voltmeter. Connect a test light to 12V, reconnect the alternator connector and back probe the brown wire with the test light. Check to see if the alternator charges else, replace the alternator. Also, you may have a faulty instrument cluster. If you need more help on how to repair your alternator I would suggest checking out this sites HowTo section http://www.buyautoparts.com/howto/

01 chevy express van battery was completely dead. Charged the battery and van won't start put a new battery in it still won't start just cranks over. The security light flashes any ideas would be greatly...

the flashing security light is an indication that the immobiliser is not recognizing the key program. This sometimes happens when the battery is removed as it corrupts the CPU program. Try using a fault scanner to reset the program

Astro van won't start

Do you notice crank when you turn over the key in ignition to start. Does it turn over but does not start, or no start nothing at all. ---------- If its not cranking and nothing happens when you turn the key, then its battery and starter related problem, both needs to be inspected.Either battery is not completely charged or its weak battery, that is not holding charge or its faulty battery or its connections are loose.-------- BUT if it is cranking and not starting, this clears that battery has juice in it and battery is doing its job and other possibilities needs to be checked. -------- The other possibilities are ,is the fuel pump coming on when you turn the key to start,is the spark is noticed at spark plug, is the check engine light coming ON. I turned my 1992 chevy astro van off now it will not start..I replaced battery and starter. It urns over slowly like it has a dead battery but won't start.

You are going to want to check your engine pullys. I replaced battery and starter before I figured out my AC was froze up. If that belt dont turn it will not start. Or even crank over.

I need the wiring diagram for a 92 chevy astro van dealing with the charging system and the starter switchmy alternator works fine and the batteryis good and the starter switch is new and all the wires...

This is gonna sound stupid but when you turn the key to the on position engine not running does the battery light come on? If not check the bulb in the dash as it acts as a fuseable link in the system.
