Squealing noise frm behind speedo of 2003 forester @ hiway speeds

There is an intermittent squealing noise from my 2003 forester. I've heard similar noises coming from old boxer fans with worn bushings. Most times I hear it when driving @ around 100 KM/h. I have also heard it when driving slower when it is very windy. As a test I have removed the speedometer then drove the car @ highway speeds and the noise is still there. So I'm guessing that the speedo isn't the problem.

Any thoughts or ideas on this?

SOURCE: I have a 2001 Subaru

You have a loose belt on the A/C. On most new cars that is one big belt that drives everything on the car. If when you look at the belt on the grooved side, do you see cracks on the grooved part running across (from side to side) on the belt? if so, it is in bad need of a new belt. A new belt should stop the squealing noise. While you are replacing the belt also check the belt tensioner to ensure it is in good working order.

My 92 chevy blazer is making a loud squealing noise sounds like my belts but its not that I've replaced the belt and the tensioner what else could it be?

Bearings in Alternator, water pump, power steering pump or even a squeal from Vacuum line, EGR diaphram or similar. Check power steering fluid level.

Now when you replaced the tensioner, did you notice more pulleys that were just "there" and not connected to anything? These are idler pulleys and are helpful in routing the belt. They have bearings too!

Pleae rate my info.

Squealing sound when air conditioning is on and turning left

same problem...not an a/c issue. When the fan is on and when you turn left.sounds like something rubbing in the blower. took the blower off, no obvious blockage.
