Question about 2000 Oldsmobile Intrigue

1 Answer

Replaced blower motor, now runs continuously.

I replaced the blower motor in my wifes 1999 Olds Intrigue. The new blower motor is OE equipment and runs great. The only problem is that it won't turn off. With or without the key in the ignition, I have to unplug the connection to turn it off.
I suspect a short somewhere in the system. When I plug in the fuse, it sparks.
Any suggestions?

Run's continuously ? High speed , low , med 1,2, 3 . ????
Probably the high speed relay contact's stuck closed . The fuse for the high blower is hot at all times , low blower fuse is hot only with key on. It sparks becaused the motor turns on . If it had a short the fuse would blow . The blower motor relay is part of the resistor pack near the blower motor .

SOURCE: Blower Motor on a '98 Olds Intrigue

THe blower motor is under the dash. You will have to take out the glovebox and half of the dash to get up in there, but if you have the time and the energy you can fix yourself. Will have to disconnect heater core hoses under the hood

SOURCE: 99 Olds Intrigue, blower fan resistor

It will burn out. Air flow in the heater box cools the resistor. These resistors get very hot when the blower is running.

SOURCE: where is the fan blower resistor located on 2002

It is most likely a module, most of the time they are near the blower motor, maybe mounted to where it will go inside the blower box to keep cool, this controls the fan speeds only

How do you replace a blower motor on a 1999 oldsmobile intrigue?

It's easy.
  1. Disconnect the battery negative cable.
  2. Remove the right side insulator/ carboard/ fabric thingy (if it's still there).
  3. Unclip the instrument panel wiring harness retainer and move it out of the way.
  4. Disconnect the blower motor.
  5. Disconnect the blower motor cooling hose.
  6. Remove the (3) blower motor mounting bolts.
  7. Remove the blower motor.

The heater stopped blowing on my 98 Olds Intrigue. I was able to use the controls on high until last night, then they just stopped. I am still getting heat, but it's not blowing. Any ideas what the problem...

Blower motors generally last about 120k miles(in Minnesota) They have brushes which eventually wear out. As they wear there is less tension on them against the comutator and so it requires more voltage to get them to run. Thats generally why "Hi" on the control is the only one that will make them run close to the end of thier life. This dose not rule out the control itself or the resistors. The resistors are located under the glove box behind the blower. Remove them and visually check their condition. Measure them with an ohm meter, they should all be less than 20 ohms. Remove the control and check it for overheating. Switches like to become resistive and overheat, melting the plastic frame and the plug. If all checks good replace the blower motor. You could check the motor by applying 12 volts to it and it would probably run but now that its removed its been bumped around and the brushes are making better contact. So don't be tricked. Like I said, if it has alot of miles on it (time) your better off with a new one anyway.

HVAC intermittent problem with 2002 Olds Intrigue

I assume you are talking about whether or not the blower fan is running. I had a similar problem. The likely cause is the resistors that control the motor speed. I took off the resistor pack and because it didn't look like any of the electronics were damaged I replaced the blower motor and that fixed it. One or the other, or both should do it.
Check fuses first.

Follow the blower wires. I believe you should find a relay. I suggest testing it as well. Make sure it is good. Also make sure fuse is good and secure. Test your control switches and check all the vacuum lines and wiring

No power to heat control or blower motor

R u sure u tested it correctly? There will be a 30 amp fuse usually associated with the blower motor however u need to look at the motor connections with a meter set to ac. These newer cars use a pwm type drive which is a pulsating dc voltage similiar to ac and should vary in amplitude as u turn ur control for speed. If u have that then ur motor is bad and has to be replaced.
