Chevy lumina idles fine, but when you put it in gear, it hesitates when driving, and after a few miles, it shuts off. Sometimes it will start right back up,other times, you have to let it sit for a while. We have changed the map sensor, fuel filter and pump, injectors, throttle body, idle position sensor, throttle position sensor, spark plugs and wires, and distributator cap. It still has not helped. Can anyone help?

something is creating alot of air to pass over the 02 sensor.
Low compression
Big vacuum leak.
Weak ignition
IAC stuck a little open.
TPS that is saying your foot is on the gas when it is not.
EGR stuck open a little.
Too low an idle
Weak spark plugs
Bad fuel pressure regulator
No vacuum to the fuel pressure regulator.
Bad coolant temp sensor.
What are the readings. Need to know the co and the hc reading in order to know if you have a misfire or an over fueling issue. All 5 reading are really needed to diagnose fuel related issues sight unseen

Replace the pick up coil in the distributor, this is the problem.

I know you mentioned the EGR valve has been replaced, but you may have a bad 'new' part. I know the car is electronic, but has anyone checked its ignition timing (timing belt been looked at, I know it only has 77k on it). Is the fuel pressure regulator OK and it vacumm supply?

Sounds like you have a vacuum leak. When the engine is cold the leak is there but as the engine warms up the parts start to expand thus closing the gaps and sealing the leak. I had this problem on my personal vehicle and it turned out to be lower intake gaskets.
