I have a 1995 GMC Jimmy with auto trans., it wont shift into 2nd gear only shifts into drive when I get up to 2700 RPM and let off the gas and wont shift into overdrive at all. Does anyone know what causes this?

I am old school and do not know if vacum modulator still used , check if hose still ok . Modulators used to be cheap .

Service the transmission for the shifting issue. However going from auto to manual is an electrical switch. Car wont shift till car is at high enough rpm level.

You lost your 2-4 and that is normally the Band or Drum

On the 1995 Jimmy, the shift cable can come loose on the mount on the side of the transmission where the cable meets the trans. When it slips, the alignment goes off and causes the driver to not be able to put the trans into park. If you take a long stick you can push the shift arm on the trans to the park position and your trans will go into park.....what you (and I) really need to know is how to take the shift cable mount apart and reset it.

I am sorry but i know this symptom on this exact transmission and u are going to need an overhaul.

Have a 1995 olds ciera that temp gauge goes to over the middle and only cool when air is on? could that be a fan problem?

Sounds like you may have smoked high gear clutches. Check your fluid and see if the color is darker than normal and smells burnt...
