Motor runs rough when sitting in R or D and not moving, when in N or P it idles fine. I have replaced the spark plugs and the coil pack and one spark plug is still not firing. I have a 1995 Nissan Maxima, and need advice on what a possible fix for this issue could be. I would like to make sure I am looking in the right area and not spending wasteless money.
Look at your crank sensor,,i think its faulthy.

i would change the knock sensor first. if that doesn't fix the problem then a complete tune up would be the next step. but if the sensor has no resistance that is where i would start

Let's try the cheapest fix first. Change the fuel filter out. You'll probably see a brown looking goop in the gas, This is an "ETHANOL" problem. Read up on it. These are all related to so many idle and acceleration problems. Buy a can of SEAFOAM at the parts house. Fill up tank with Premium and add SEAFOAM. Then change filter out before 500 more miles. This should clean out the water and the goop and the carbon build up caused by the ETHANOL. Add a can of SEAFOAM every 3000 mile after that to a full tank of gas. It will keep your emissions,engine, and fuel lines clean. And will keep your car from line freeze up. Good luck.

there might be a problem in your fuel line. try buying a can of sea foam [Red and white bottle.Available at any auto place. Around $9]. pouring about half in the tank and the other half thru a line in your brake booster or another vacuum line. the line will be under the hood to the very top right. it should be black, round, and two lines coming out of it. do this with the car running so maybe have someone else hold the gas to about 1500 RPM. Slowly drip the sea foam in until it almost dies then put your thumb on the line to keep it running. keep doing that until the can is almost or fully empty. Let the car sit for about 5 mionutes then start the car and keep the RPMs to about 2 grand. There will be smoke fromt the exhaust SO DONT WORRY! Just keep on the gas until the smokes clears. If that doesnt help let me know!

Before offering a solution, I just want to make sure you don't have the term "Rough running" mixed up with "Feels Rough". When the engine mounts on these cars fail, sometimes there is a vibration which can be felt in the cabin area that can and has been confused by some people as running rough. Replacing the mounts which dampens the "Normal" vibration which the engine does make, will disappear when the mounts are installed. Some of the mounts are fluid filled.
