My car wont start, 1997 vauxhall astra 1.7 turbo diesel

What could a Temperamental electrical starting fault on a 1997 vauxhall astra turbo diesel be that is not the diesel cut off switch?
its a 1.7 this fault is not the diesel cut off switch and it turns over fine, it will somtimes start ok but if i turn it off and try to restart it straight away it wont! could it be a factory fitted immobiliser or a key chip or chip reader? The van is also very underpowered.

This sounds like a problem in the fuel shut off circuit. When you turn the key on, it energizes the fuel shut off solenoid on the injection pump. When you turn off the key, power is removed and the pump is moved by spring to the fuel off position. Check for power at this terminal when you are having a problem, ( with the key on) If no power then I would check the wiring and connectors from this connection to the Ignition key. I believe it is wired direct. That can be checked at http://www.alldata.com/products/index.jsp

subscribe3 and get a wiring schematic for the car and see if it is wired direct to the ign switch of from a relay, I am sure it is a connection problem if you have no power.

A 1.7 diesel even if turboed, is dead slow in any vehicle let alone a van. Enjoy the fuel economy

good luck

The service stabilitrak light came on,on my 2011 vauaxhall astra 2.0 cdti sri diesel what do it mean

ASTRA ANTILOCK BRAKE SYSTEM (ABS)
The Vauxhall Astra ABS warning light will illuminate yellow for a few seconds after the ignition has been started to self-check. The system will be operational when the light extinguishes. If the ABS light does not extinguish after starting the car or comes on whilst driving, this signifies a fault with the ABS system. Brakes will still operate although stability may be compromised on certain road surfaces. Take it to your mechanic to see if it needs to be serviced.

I have a astra sri turbo diesel 2005 with a huge delay in accearation. its had a sum pipes cleard out that aparently was extreemly clogged but i still have the problem. the car is still very unresponsive....

Try replacing the bottom intercooler pipe with a silicon one the rubber pipe fitted as standard gets oil contamination and deteriorates/splits reducing pressure/boost to the turbo causing lack of power and eventually limp mode.
Silicon pipes dont suffer from this problem and should hopefully solve your problem.
