2004 ford taurus. Had battery and belt replaced. cuts off

Have a 2004 taurus, replaced belt and battery. However, problem is when the car idles. it cuts off. I was told the air conditioner replacement system would cost 1000. Would bypassing compressor solve the idling problem and would i be without ac.

I was told by two different mechanics that the compressor was bad. I asked the mechanic to bypass the compressor. After doing this, the car runs fine, minus the ac. However, the car continues to idle roughly. After replacing the fuse, the car idles fine. However, i had to replace the fuse twice. Im thinking the mechanic did not disconnect the electricity to the compressor. Im truly reaching here, i no nothing about cars

Yes on both accounts. you can by pass the compressor by getting a serpentine belt for a non air conditioned car.Why do you feel that the a/c compressor is the problem?

if you disconnect the plug that goes to the compressor two wires that or on the top of the compressor it should stop popping the fuse.

You haven't given enough info to diagnose the problem. Did the car die while idling? Could it be restarted? Will it run if you keep your foot on the gas pedal? Etc...

Just replaced the serpentine belt and now the engine light is on and the idle is rough and stalls out

Belt has nothing to do with the issue

Use the codes as you always do, to diagnose

Replace drive belt on 2004 Ford Taurus

ok with a smooth pulley use smooth side of belt with serrated pulley use serrated side of belt. The belt will seem too short at first but with some real muscle it can be pulled into place.
I never leave the tentioner for last because it is usually hard to get at.
leave the most convenient pulley for last the job goes smoother.
put the belt on the crankshaft first.
then go around in either direction. remember the smooth serrated rule and rout the belt. most likely the alternator will have a smooth pulley just before or after it.
good luck!!!

How do i put a serpentine belt on a 2004 ford taurus?

look under hood for belt routing diagram, then obtain belt and belt tensioner tool from advance auto and it will be easy. 10 min job. If no diagram draw one yourself then use that for reference.
