I have a '98 Chevrolet Venture. It's been a super reliable van. The problem I've run into is that the rear liftgate no longer opens. I believe the latch mechanism has become disengaged from the exterior handle. Is there a quick fix for this? It looks like a real pain in the rear to get at. Thanks!
It isn't that the cable is off I believe it will be that the mechanism is siezed. you will need to gain entry from the inside through an access hole in rear hatch door. once you get the door open you will need to remove the latch and oil it with penetrating oil and work the latch until it works freely

Power Liftgate System Description
Liftgate Module
The liftgate module controls the liftgate motor, liftgate clutch, and liftgate latch based on various inputs. The liftgate module also performs diagnostics on these inputs and outputs and will disable liftgate functionality and set DTCs should a fault be detected. The liftgate module is secured to the motor assembly at the left rear of the vehicle. The module requires a liftgate position learn procedure be performed when replacing. This allows the module to learn the full open and full closed positions of the liftgate.
