having a smoke test done on it today. thank you all for ur feed back on my problem.. lots of helpful hints.. once i get the smoke test results back i will post back.. my car isnt under any warranty however i do need to look into possibly getting one. the dealership does offer it. when i got the car they said they would fix the cat. conv. if thats is the problem but their mechanics can only go so far with trouble shooting a problem (which isnt good since they are a dealership) so when their mechanics took it they said it wasnt grounded right so they re ground my computer in my car before i drove it off the lot and now its doin this.. any way waiting for the smoke test results later today. i will let u all know what they say and would really like your feed back on that also if you can thank you all for your help. it is/was much appreciated.

The leak is in the evaporator system that purges fumes out of the tank. check for leaks in all systems that attach to tank. all it takes is a rotten rubber line with a crack in it.

I can see that you've done the right things, but something is still amiss... Mitsubishi says

A code P0421 may mean that one or more of the following has happened:

  • The catalytic converter is no longer functioning properly
  • An oxygen sensor is not reading (functioning) properly
  • A sparkplug is fouled
Measure the voltage at the oxygen sensor on Bank 1 (the rear sensor, or the sensor after the converter). In fact, it would be a good idea to test each oxygen O2 sensor while you're at it.

One thing to note is that many vehicle manufacturers offer a longer warranty on emissions-related parts. So if you have a newer car but it's out of it's bumper-to-bumper warranty, there still may be warranty on this type of problem. Many manufacturers give a five year, unlimited mileage warranty on these items. It's worth checking into.

Check your motor mounts, recently engine idled rough when in nuetral or stopped in drive, also jerked when put in reverse. took it to a automotive shop and found motor mounts cracked. Runs great now

Service engine light

Light came on due to the engine computer pick up a bad signal from one of your engine sensors, will have to get a code reading to know what's going on, most auto parts will do this service for free or some one like autozone, have it done and get back with us with the code number, so we can help you with your trouble code.

I have a 1996 mitsubshi galant with a 2.4 motor check engine light comes on the code is 505 the car idles up and down at stop lights etc I did clean throttle body the problem went away after 3 weeks it is...

Bad idle air control valve. Most likely needs to be replaced. I'm guessing you have around 125K miles on your Galant, right? See other posts for solution.

2001 mitsu galant 6 clynder service soon ingine light keep on co

i would start by taking it to autozone and having them read the trouble codes that are in your car. they offer this service for free. You can then go ahead and fix the problems. It could just simply be that you did not put the gas cap on all the way the last time that you filled up the tank.

When I fill up gas the "service engine soon" light comes on.

You need to find out what code is being set by the computer...Have the car scanned before you go any farther.....

Service engine soon.

it mearns that the computer is sensing a failure. You will need to see if it has logged any codes, and troubleshoot from there. You can go to many auto parts suppliers (autozone, ect) and many will read the codes for you, or you can purchase code reader and do it yourself
