1987 IROC, Ran out of gas,put gas in, now service engine light on

I accidently ran out of gas, I was able to get to a gas station and put gas in. Drove about 4 miles then it started to act like I was running out of gas again. I took air cleaner off and sprayed gas in intake body it ran then turned off like I'm not getting any fuel. Do you think I may have plugged the fuel filter. Now I have a "Service Engine Soon" light on this car has always ran and was running great until a ran out of gas. What can I do. ?

If you have high milieage you may have sucked in the gunk on the botton of your tank when you ran out of fuel check if you can hear the fuel pump running for about 2 sec with key on engine off if you hear nothing the problem is with your pump as they will burn out if they run dry for too long,if you hear the pump check for fuel pressure if pressure low check fuel filter to see if clogged by gunk from bottom of tank.

1987 Ecoline van V-8 engine hasn't been started in about 7 years. It ran good before that. What do I have to do first to start it and get it running?

I would change all the fluids and either try dry gas or i would recommend that the gas tank be thoroughly drained and new gas put in the tank.If you have a hard time getting started try to use starter fluid in carburetor or if you have none just use gas. If the vehicle is equipped with fuel injectors locate air filter and follow air duct to engine that is where starter fluid or gasoline will have to be pored to prime the injectors.if it don't start the engine should be tuned up with a major tune up replace all filters ect even if it starts without tune up i would tune it up asap!

M.A.F. sensor went bad os so i thought. disconnected it, car ran fine no problems. about a month later it starts acting up. since then there's a new fuel pump, filter, plugs, cap an rotor. as well as a new...

If the M.A.F. sensor is disconnected it can't help the driveability of the vehicle in question. Do you get a service engine soon light with a code to this effect? I would change it and hook it up and see what happens.

Just put gas in car and car is sputtering the service engine soon light is on . I had to two feet it all the way home. what could be wrong

So it ran fine until you gassed it up? I would take the fuel filter off and drain it and see what you have, it may be a bad batch of gas, if so contact the station.

My gas guage is not accurate, the needle seems to jump around while driving. I ran out of gas at 1/4 tank the other day. What could the problem be on a 87 iroc z?

GasparMacari is 100% on target. I had the same problem with my IROC. Seems that the sulphur in the gas errodes the contacts on the gas gauge sensor in the fuel tank. I know of people that have tried gasoline additives to clean the corrosion but I would give it a 50/50 chance of working. You gotta drop the tank to get at the fuel pump/sensor assembly. You are looking at some big bucks and it is NOT a do-it-yourself project. One spark and BOOM no more Camaro... or YOU... I'd suggest setting or re-setting your odometer trip indicator every time you fill up. Keep track of the miles driven .vs your MPG and you can figure out when it is time to fill 'er up again. That's what I did until I traded it off.

Check engine light on after ALMOST running out of gas.

its entirely possible. I have wasted more of my time clearing false EVAP (evaporation emissions) codes from people not tightening down their gas caps than i care to mention. not your problem i know, but bizarre things cause those lights to set. your best bet is to get it checked (aftermarket parts places tend to offer free scans) and if it is fuel related, have it cleared and keep an eye on it for a while.

Ran out of gas and now she won't run!

i would say that you have a bad fuel pump or if you have a carb on it the float inside the carb is stuck check these and i'm sure you will find it's one of these.

Check engine light inside gas tank making a noise

Don't know if it'll help, but, my 2002 Sportage's check engine light came on when I put gas in it and stayed on until I ran out all of that tank full. I asked at that station if anything had been added to their fuel, and after a lot of hee hawing, they admitted they were adding ethanol! So, watch where you buy gas!!
