buy a haynes or chilton repair manual for your vehicle it will show you what you need to expect to do for rebuilding engine $2000 from what you say will be a rebuilt motor not bad --since you state dont know how to rebuild a motor look at buying a donor car with a good motor our a junkyard --if you buy a crate that might be an option but priced higher than rebuild quote --the above options are better than you trying to rebuild your own motor with labor assistance and never done motor work before --first you would need the tools and equipment to remove the engine from the car --once out need to tear it down to see exactly what is damaged and needs to be replaced head and block will need to be sent out and checked $$ will need cams and crank also sent out $$ then full gasket kit --bearings- bolts -pistons-rings-valves-lifters-ect need to be bought and replaced so $2000 to get engine done not bad price and remember its in an 05 aveo what is the vehicle condition and worth verses repair --but buy the repair manuals first to review all options
Hi,
Yes a 2004 chevy aveo with a 1.6 L inline 4 cylinder is an interference engine. Hopefully you did'nt snap the timing belt while driving, because usually it will bend up some valves and even could crack a piston. Most likely if that did happen you will need to take the head off and have the valves inspected / replaced and inspect for piston damage as well......Mike
NOW. These cars are notorious for timing belts snapping and GM has advised to replace at 60K. I have this car and it has an interference engine, meaning that if the belt snaps there is a good chance the engine's pistons will bend the intake/exhaust valves, meaning you would have to have the engine rebuilt if this happens.
I am about to have mine changed, along with the water pump and tensioner since the water pump should be replaced before 100,000 and involves the same labor. I've found that at a Chevy dealership the whole package ranges from $500-$800 depending on who you call.
Hello momma_green: My name is Roger and I will help you. The 2005 Chevy Aveo 1.6 engine is a interference motor. That means if the timing belt breaks. The valves will be bent. I have one in my shop now that the belt broke on it. Bent all 16 valves and damaged all 4 pistons. This is not a forgiving motor. I wish I could tell you good news but I cant. Should you need further help please just ask. Please rate the answer you received. Thank You for using Fix Ya. Roger
Did you have the dealer change the belt because it broke ?
If this is the case they should know if it is an interfearance engine and if it is in fact an interference engine they should have checked the valves. If you had the belt changed just because you were scared it was going to break on you then I am sure the car ran fine when you took it in.
The explanation you gave sounds to me like they have the belt a tooth off and they need to re do it because the timing is out.
I hope this helps
Regards
Sam
thank you brad brown... think valves are bent then.....
