I have a 2000 GMC Sierra that will not go in four wheel drive. My dash shows that it should be in four wheel drive, but it is not. I can hear it shift into four wheel drive at the Transfer case. I dont know what is wrong.

replace switch under truck, light may need replaced also, when you put shifter into 4x4 h, place your trans lever into drive, then move forward, 4x4 will engage.
Sounds like you need a front axle actuator. This actuator bolts to the side of the front differential housing. It is electrically engaged. You can purchase them online starting at about $40
try going into reverse for 10 feet then go to drive for 10 feet that might help if not it is to the wiring to you 4x4 engage system (wires to your wheel hub)
