4x4 in working

I have a 2000 GMC Sierra that will not go in four wheel drive. My dash shows that it should be in four wheel drive, but it is not. I can hear it shift into four wheel drive at the Transfer case. I dont know what is wrong.

i have the same problem. I push the button and it sounds like it engages but it doesnt. I have tried putting it in gear but it still wont. I dont know if it is the actuator or the sensor.

I had the same problem with my 91 GMC. Turned out to be the actuator that engages the front differential. $70.00 part at Advance Auto Parts fixed it.

My 1994 gmc will not engage in 4x4

replace switch under truck, light may need replaced also, when you put shifter into 4x4 h, place your trans lever into drive, then move forward, 4x4 will engage.

2000 Gmc sierra sle 1500 on the floor 4x4, 4x4 engages but nothing to the front wheels, the drive shaft spins, but still nothing, any suggestions?

Sounds like you need a front axle actuator. This actuator bolts to the side of the front differential housing. It is electrically engaged. You can purchase them online starting at about $40

The truck says service 4x4. I press the 4x4 button and it won't change to 4x4. It stays in 2 wheel drive. Could it be a censor? The light sometimes doesn't show color in 2 wheel drive.

I have seen problems in both the dash switches and encoder motors on the side of the transfer case. You need to have the 4x4 module scanned for codes.

4wd will not engage on 2002 gmc sierra 1500

try going into reverse for 10 feet then go to drive for 10 feet that might help if not it is to the wiring to you 4x4 engage system (wires to your wheel hub)
