No just remove the bottom cover then you should be able to push the upper cover up enough to clear so you can get to the 2 screws in the switch then remove and disconnect the connectors.
If you can not get enough clearance with the upper cover on then you will have to remove the ignition lock cylinder to remove the upper cover. To remove lock cylinder just turn to on position then look under the lock cylinder on the steering column and you will see a small hole, take a pick or small screw driver and stick it into hole to push button on lock cylinder then pull it out.

Shouldn't have to... just remove the cowling surrounding the steering column between the steering wheel and the dash to give you access to the part

Need to remove steering column on a 1992 lincoln town car

Remove the steering wheel, turn signal reset (plastic), remove clip and spring. Remove trim to expose the entire colum. Disconnect all connectors. There are four main bolts holding the colum up. Remove the bolts and lower the colum. At the end of the steering shaft there is a bolt going through the colum. Remove the bolt. The colum can then be removed.

Car got stole and I got it but may turn siginals will not work. they broke where the key gones in at.

Hi

You need to buy a new steering colum, they have snapped the steering lock and this damages the mechanism behind the steering wheel that affects the turn signals. Also you have to change it anyhow really as if you where to try and repair it, it could just lock up at any time while you where driving, this would make you crash as you wouldnt be able to steer.

Hope this helps.

Dan

92 buick lesabre, left blinker won't work unless you move it manually. bulbs and fuse are fine. hazards work.

Hi Friend:

Since you've check or Changed your Bulbs and Fuse also Check or Replace your Turn Signal Flasher,Just as a Percation i would Double Check Fuses,Bulbs and Signal flasher.

If these are All showing bad I would say your Signal Switch has Stopped Working.

To Replace the Signal Swith :

1st Disconnect your Negative Battery Cable.

Remove Steering Wheel (you'll need a Puller, the remove the Shroud around the Steering Wheel Colume.

CAUTION= If you have Air Bags be careful. But you will have to remove the Air Bag Module by removing the coil lock spring Screw.

Then remove the Retaing ring and Coil Spring it will still be attached to your wiring=Just let it Hang.

Next you'll need a Compression Lock Spring Plate Tool.

Attach it to the Center of the Steering Colume, Rotate the Nut Clockwise to Remove,After Compressed you'll see a Metal Snap ring Remove it from the Groove then remove the Tool& Plate

Now you'll need to remove the Plastic Cancel ,the ring and ALL the Bearing including the Bearing Race.

Remove the Signal Arm Lever Screw. then the Signal switch Screws. Pull the Switch out and let it Hang(Still attached to the Wiring.

Get down under then you'll have to look for the screws that hold the wiring to steering colume, Remove then.

Then remove the Retaining Rng and the Wire Plug Protector. Now you Can Pull the Signal Swith Out.

Installing New Swith Simply Reverse the Removal Directions to Install your New Switch.

Please take time to Vote on my Quality of Service and the Help i Provided And a Small Testamony would be Great. If you don't mind.

Thanks for Using FIXYA

Changing turn signal switch 1986 lincoln town car.

Get a manual like chiltons or haynes to guide you through this one...Air bag needs to be disabled and yes, wheel needs to be removed. You will need a wheel puller and a tool to remove the steering lock plate. The arm either unscrews from or is screwed to the switch...either way, it's removable.

98 lincoln town car flashers,turn signals,brake lights don't work

check the outputs on the multi function switch (t/s switch) the brake lights and flashers all go threw this switch try to wiggle the flasher button if the lights start to work then the switch is bad to replace switch remove bottom cover by pedals if it has one bottom cover on steering colum has i beleave 4 screws that hold it on, the tilt colum lever unthreads and the cover will come off the upper colum just clips on you will have to remove the key tumbler to get it off . you need to disconnect the battery at this point and block the wheels. to get tumbler out put key in and turn to run postion there is a small silver button that pushes in with small screwdriver once its pushed in use the key to pull tumbler out the top cover will now come off you will probably have to tilt colum down and shift to 1 to get cover off there are 2 torx head screws that hold switch on plug new switch in and reconnect battery to test lights unhook battery again and reassemble please let me know how you make out
