Sorry to say your vehicle does not use a vac modulator.

That would explain me not being able to find it. So what do you think is going on with it?

The transmission uses solenoids as well as the valve body to know when to shift and which gear to be in. Everything is computer controlled. So I would start with checking for trouble codes. As far as loosing fluid, it has to be leaking some where.

SOURCE: 95 ford windstar 3.8 v6 transmission, no 3rd gear

First thing is to check the fluid level in the transmission, most vehicles have to be running at engine operating temp either in P or N, check your owners manual. Assuming your fluid is where it should be, that vehicle you have sorry to tell you are notorious for transmission failures, by what you described looks like your going to have to replace the trany or rebuild it, either way its not a cheap fix. My advise if the van is in really good condition put a used trany in it and trade it in for something else. You can look anywhere online about customer/ owner feed backs on 88-98 windstar vans and how bad the transmissions are on those Ford didn't get smart till 99 or 00 when they redisgned the drive train. If you keep driving it the way it is the trany will completely fail leaving you on the side of the road somewhere.

common problem for ford. and in these vans. Same thing to the 98 I had. I am a mechanic and couldn't figure it out. Thought pin fell out but linkage moved. Brought in to tranny shop and they ended up getting used on for $800

Gear wont engage

Low fluid level, plugged filter or a bad valve body. Could be a bad transmission control module too

I've been doing research on these vans. Seems I remember that if the OD light flashes >>> fluid level is low. Also, I read where Ford wants you to overfill fluid so as to allow you to go around corners without loss of lubracation. By this time you may have melted it down and bought a Honda. I have a 95 Teal color and just in flawless shape, however it won;t go in reverse. Just follow the hood ornament and don;t look back...right ! ?

Transmission not shiftin

For car not changing gears it can be shifter assembly issue, or it can also be transmission issue. Get the shifter assembly inspected with ignition OFF.

For more troubleshooting, I suggest you to get the Following help link checked, its complete step by step procedure to inspect gear shift issues: -----

I have no gears forward or reverse. My Vehicle is a 2003 Dodge Ram 1500 4x4 Hemi with 170,000 on the clock. Fluid is clean and full with no leaks. I have the following trouble codes:...

Your scanner will give you the code but it will not tell you how to fix your vehicle. Scanners basically tell you what systems to check or what systems are failing.

These are what your codes mean:

P0700: Transmission Control Module
- Shorted or open circuit within transmission control module (TCM)
- Failure of transaxle control module. This is just a informative code.

P0734: Gear ratio error in 4th gear
- Low transmission fluid level
- Dirty transmission fluid
- Shift solenoids
- Transmission mechanical problems
- Transmission hydraulic control circuit

P0732: Gear ratio error in 2nd gear
- Low transmission fluid level
- Dirty transmission fluid
- Shift solenoids
- Transmission mechanical problems
- Transmission hydraulic control circuit

P0731: Gear ratio error in 1st gear
- Low transmission fluid level
- Dirty transmission fluid
- Shift solenoids
- Transmission mechanical problems
- Transmission hydraulic control circuit

P0871: Transmission Fluid Pressure Sensor Switch C

P0876: Transmission Fluid Pressure Sensor Switch D

Emissions Codes:

P0400: Exhaust Gas Recirculation Flow Malfunction
- Harness or connectors (EGR volume control valve circuit is open or shorted.)
- EGR volume control valve stuck closed
- EGR volume control solenoid valve
- Dead (Weak) battery
- EGR temperature sensor and circuit
- EGR Valve

How to fix :
- Clean EGR Valve
- Repair EGR harness or connector
- Replaced EGR volume control solenoid valve
- Replaced EGR volume control valve

P0440: EVAP Emission Control System Malfunction
- Missing Fuel cap
- Incorrect fuel filler cap used
- Fuel filler cap remains open or fails to close
- Foreign matter caught in fuel filler cap
- Incorrect fuel tank vacuum relief valve

How to fix:
- Retight or replaced fuel tank filler cap
- Replaced damage or leaking EVAP canister

P0456: EVAP Control System Leak Detected (Very Small Leak)
- Missing Fuel cap
- Incorrect fuel filler cap used
- Fuel filler cap remains open or fails to close
- Foreign matter caught in fuel filler cap
- Incorrect fuel tank vacuum relief valve

How to fix:
- Retight or replaced fuel tank filler cap
- Replaced damage or leaking EVAP canister

P0441: EVAP Emission Control System Incorrect Purge
- Missing Fuel cap
- Incorrect fuel filler cap used
- Fuel filler cap remains open or fails to close
- Foreign matter caught in fuel filler cap
- Incorrect fuel tank vacuum relief valve

How to fix:
- Retight or replaced fuel tank filler cap
- Replaced damage or leaking EVAP canister

Based on the info check your EVAP system. I would check for leaks and maybe replace the EGR and the canister.

For the transmission check the TCM also you may need to take it to a mechanic though.

Hope this helps a little.

Trans slips between 2nd and 3rd shift

MV could be the problem. Always work thru issue before buying ANY can of additive. Generally those things just mask the issue..not fix it. Change your fluid, and if that doesnt correct it,then take it in and have the tranny bands tightened. most shops do this relatively in expensively.

Feels like the transmission is dragging. no reverse

Your tranny will most likely have to be rebuilt.
