Have you checked the throttle cable ? Does the engine idle high in park or just drive ?

  • Anonymous Feb 01, 2013

    just drive fast idle

  • Anonymous Feb 01, 2013

but u must push gas to 2000rpm then it wont slow down

If you can rev up the engine in park and it slows down, it sounds like something is keeping the idle air control valve open in drive. It could be a computer problem or wiring harness too. Can you unplug the IAC valve at regular idle and drive it without it having a high idle problem ?

SOURCE: mercury sable 2001 duratec engine DOHC I get check engine light and diagnostic code PO401". Any suggestions?

Barring any vacuum leaks, P0401 is indicative of a bad EGR valve. Hope this answers your question. Best of luck.

Plugs and wires 2005 mercury sable

What engine do you have, I will assume a DOHC V6, the DOHC V6 doesn't have spark plug wires, each spark plug (located under the igntion coil) has its own separate ignition coil, it is called direct ignition. You unbolt the coil and remove it with the attached spark plug boot and then you remove the spark plug from the cylinder and replace, do one at a time.

1989 Mercury Sable, 3.0L V-6, Auto Trans. Engine Idles at about 2000 RPM.

Check your vacuum hoses (They are 3/8" Rubber hosing on the right side of the engine, you will need to remove the air intake piping (Also remove the throttle body to make accessing them easier) This is the #1 cause of high idling in the 3.0 OHV and 3.0 DOHC sable engines.
