My 1990 subaru legacy was overheating.

I took out the thermostat. Is there anything else i should know. I am in hawaii so i do not really need any heat.

I had the same problem, taking the thermostat out helped for a bit, but keep an eye on it it could be a sign that the waterpump is going out. shortly after i took the thermostat out my waterpump failed.

Well....if that stopped your overheating problem, that's good, but todays engines depend on running at a certain temp. for proper performance, gas mileage, etc. We can thank unleaded fuel for that....

Well it sounds like you have covered most of the bases.
One thing that could cause overheating is a restriction in the exhaust.
Do you know if the radiator fan is coming on when the engine reaches 220 degrees ?
How long can you drive it before it starts overheating, and does it boil over when it does ?

95 Subaru Legacy overheating, top rad hose is hot, bottom hose is cold,antifreeze being pushed back into overflow bottle, fans are working properly, what is the problem ??
does your heater work? if not than your thermostat is stuck. be careful not to get the car hot as those engines are sensitive and will warp the cylinder heads quickly.

I would fill radiator with fluid, start car and allow to warm up. Watch catch can for bubbles. If there are bubbles I would suspect a head gasket leak.

Pretty common on subaru's, try elevating the front of the car whilst bleeding the cooling system.

90 subaru legacy overheats, wheres the thrmostat
When a car overheats it's rarely the thermostat. They just don't go bad that often. If it overheats when you idle a lot, it's the fan and with electric fans, it's almost always the fan motor. But to find the thermostat, follow the top radiator hose to the engine and there it is.

subaru provided a access port in the truck of the vehicle where a round plate can be removed to access unit. tank removal not neccessary. recomend replacing with factory oem part from dealer for best results.

1997 subaru outback legacy overheating
I hate to tell you this but the guy isn't returning your calls because the head gasket is blown and he probably knew it.
As for the 1990... have you checked the water pump for leaks? (front/ driver's side on the bottom of the engine) My guess is that it's faulty and unfortunately, it's behind the timing belt.
Both of these repairs will be a pretty penny.

Overheating
Multiple causes for overheating. Start with thermostat.

I had an overheating problem in my Subaru that ended up being a head gasket (I replaced thermostat and radiator, but these did not help). It turned out that the head gasekt leak was allowing air into water passages that prevented water circulation in the engine.
