it could just be bad gas passing through or an early indicator of a failed catalytic converter specially if there is a rotten egg smell in the black smoke
check to see if the fuse blew again, make sure fuse has power to it,try hitting the bottom of the gas tank with a hammer while someone trysto start it at the same time if it start than you know the fuel pump is bad if it doesn't start check the power supply to the fuel pump in the gas tank itshould have 12volts while cranking engine
May very well be a fuel issue if it wants to try and start on ether.
That have the quadrajet feedback carburator? Look down the through (hold the choke open) and work the throttle. Do you see fuel spray?
You can also try and disconnect the fule line between the pump and carb and crank it to see if fuel comes out. You may have a bad pump or simply a plugged filter.
try blowing out all the fule lines and changing the fule filters the lines may be blocked up also check the fule tank vent if this is blocked the pump cant **** fule from it
sounds like the vent is blocked, this is located near fuel tank, lots of times spiders make a nest in the hose which blocks the venting here a diagram to help you locate the vent hose.which i new what year and engine was in it but most evap systems are set up very close, hope this is helpful.
I think you called it a fuel shut off switch. It is under the dash on the passenger side. Your initial post said the button was not up but I have seen them go bad and not pass voltage even in the down position.
