Horn not working

The horn has two connections, live and earth. The horn works if 12v is applied to the live connection. Hence the problem is not the horn or the earth connection. Can you tell me where to locate the live connections for the horn. Is there a relay involved?

Bf falcon horn

A horn with a single wire connection will be earthed out internally and through the body fixture. Horns that have 2 connections are either internally earthed as explained and the second terminal is to pass the power over to a second horn . . If both terminals are under the one rivet and insulate from the horn body then It is used in parallel with a second horn If the terminals are separated and attached to different areas of the body and are insulated from the body then one will be an earth wire.

Horn no working , i need diafram

first run a live wire from the battery to the horn connection to see if the horn works, now some older cars have a permanant feed to the horn and then the return to the horn switch so have a look to see how many wires on the horn ,if two wires then one side of the horn to the + and the other to the earth - and see if it works

My 2000 ford ranger horn has only one wire hooked up should it have 2 wires connection. Thanks Wayne .

Hi Wayne,

Some models have single horns, others have two (or more).

Some horns are already earthed, hence may not require the use of an earth wire.

If you have noticed a spare wire/connector coming off the horn harness, this could simply be part of the standard factory horn harness (which was also used for the multiple horn types), making this a redundant connector.

If your horn is working, then I believe the all is in order. If however, your horn does not work, then suspect there is a broken connection.

Cheers,

Horns are working and there is live to them but wont work from the wheel

The horn relay or connection on the horn button has failed. The reason there is a live is probably because the switching is done on the earth (-ve) side.
Measure at the relay first there is less to strip down.

Im in the process of wiring an air horn to my 2008 dodge caliber se. ive used the existing power feed and earthed the horn via an additional wire to an earth point. the horn works fine whilst the engine...

check your ground and clean it , also check your power source you may have 12v but not enough amps to make it work if you are using the standard horn power trying to run an airhorn motor may not be enough but most likely would be a ground problem

Horn does not work on 1999 plymouth breeze any suggestions why?

Need to check for either a 12V feed at one of the horn terminals with an assistant pressing the horn button. May be an earthed switch so if no 12V then switch your multimeter to resistance (ohms) and check same wire/s for earth when assistant presses button.

1986 Chevy Caprice Classic Horn not working

Diagram should be on the inside of the fuse box or relay cluster lid/cover. If Test light has 1 wire and a sharp tip? Yes, but only if you push the horn button too ;-)

My guess is that the horn lost its ground, but you can check this with the light. The horn only beeps when both GROUND and Pos 12v are present. The horn button gives the relay 12v to close, and the relay gives the horn 12v to operate. The ground is always connected.

Connect tester clipwire to 12v source (battery, headlight (has to be on) and touch its tip to metal of car. Does it light? Good. the tester is working and the 12v is a good source.

Touch one of the 2 horn connection or wires (poke it thru the plastic - why tip is sharp). Does it light? Touch the other, does it?

If both light, (1 will be brighter) we can assume the horn coil is good and it is getting a good ground and I was wrong (it happens... but not often). The side that is BRIGHTER is the ground wire side.

Now have someone mash the horn button. Do you hear a tiny click? That is the horn relay. If not, look for the horn relay fuse and replace it. If you DID hear the click, the relay coil is good and is trying to switch 12v to drive the horn.

Now is time to locate and replace the horn fuse or the relay may have bad contacts. Look at the other relay part numbers in the cluster and see if there is a match for the horn one. Swap it out and try the horn.

Hope this all helps. To 'test' the horn, touch the dim side again anf listen for a scratching sound. That is the 12v going thru the tiny bulb in the tester (a resistance) and trying to drive the horn.

Good Luck!

Horn doesn't work

Hi

You need to check the live feed to the connection wire, at the horn, with a 12v test light, when the horn button is pressed.
It could be the horn its-self has packed up ?

Good Luck !

Don´t forget to give a FixYa rating Please !
