It sounds like you have a loose brake shoe inside one of your rear axle brake drums. You will have to remove the rear wheels and brake drums to find out for sure.

SOURCE: keyless door pads

most dealerships use the zip code for your area to open all keyless entry cars if you bought it from a dealer--if you did buy it new you can ask the dealer to run an oasis on the truck & maybe get the code that way

SOURCE: How do you access the spark plugs 2002 mercury mountaineer

IIRC these are a coil over design. meaning the coil is over the plug. the coil should have one 8mm bolt holding it on the lower intake manifold. remove the coild to get to the spark plugs. look by the fuel injectors, coil should be just next to it or very close. coil usually says motorcraft on it and circle in design.

good luck

SOURCE: 2002 mercury mountaineer 4.0 starter relay location

The power distribution box is
located in the engine compartment.
The power distribution box contains
high-current fuses that protect your
vehicle’s main electrical systems
from overloads.
The starter relay is in position #56 of that box.

SOURCE: 2002 Mountaineer SUV, 4WD, Especially while turning the wheels

I had the same problem with my 2002 Mountaineer at about forty thousand miles. Murcury replaced the steering column free under warranty. I now have ninty two thousand miles and it's back. The rear end is making a whining noise, the tranny is starting to slip, and the rear window regulator went out. Why did we buy a Mercury?????? Disgusted Dave!!!

SOURCE: I have a 2004 Mercury Mountaineer. Sometimes when

you probably should change the transmission fluid and filter with that many miles on it.

My 2002 Mercury Mountaineer is stuck in four wheel drive? Any Suggestions?

You may have to shift it out of 4x4 then reverse several feet for it to disengage.
