I have a VW Polo P Reg has an immobiliser problem, the immobiliser wont start the car, when remote is pressed nothing happens, the alarm dos'nt go off as it normally does when working. The battery has been checked and is fully charged any other ideas? Is it possible to reset the immobiliser or disconnect it altogether replies gratefully received.
If your car is fitted with a VW Scorpion alarm which will have an oblong two button remote with a blue Volkswagen label on it. You will find the alarm control unit behind the glove box. After a flat battery when recharged the default setting for the alarm is "armed". The remote has battery which is easily replaced. But what used to happen a lot is the remote and the alarm control unit used to lose communication. If you no longer require the alarm remove the panel below the steering wheel remove the fuse box which will drop down into the foot well then find the immobilisation wiring and connect it back together. you can then unplug the multiplug from the alarm control unit. There will be no remote locking but the central locking will work off the key.
A common failure on VW Polo is the ignition switch. This is not an easy job as with most cars, the steering wheel has to be removed inc airbag etc (if your car has one)
I have the same problem with immobiliser in a 2007 golf, i have yet to figure out the problem:
Immobiliser will not allow me to sart the car but, if I let it Cool off , sometime sit between 5-120 min. it will start. i have tried succesfully the disconnect the battery for 30 min.
- it not the battery, given boost and no result
- it's not the alternator, it been tested
- Starters are effected by Temperature, i think it's the starter.

If not the key probably the reciever in the ignition switch for the immobilizer transponder
