How to remove cupholder console on 2003 Explorer

1. Remove the shift control handle by unfastening the retaining clip and lifting the handle off.
2. Gently pry upward on the trim plate in order to disengage the retainers from the console.

NOTE It may be necessary to move both seats several times to properly remove the center console.

1. Remove the rear cupholder.
2. Unfasten the 6 retaining screws, then remove the console.

In order to remove the rear passenger cup holder you must remove the console from the car and turn it over to gain access to the retainers that hold the cup holder into the console. If you go to the page at the web link below you will find detailed instructions with pictures (click on the pictures to enlarge them) on how to remove the console assembly from the floor.

The battery compartment is located right behind the center console in the G-class. To access it you will need to remove the cupholder assembly. It should have only 2 screws holding it down. Once you remove those screws and move the cupholder to the side you should be able to lift up the carpet so that you can remove the battery cover. If you have any problems let me know and I will try to help in anyway I can.

I had a problem with the back seat cup holders. You can actually remove the whole console. I took mine to the dealer and they fixed it for free. They did not even sell me my car. Here is the link to the manuals:

sounds like electrical power is lost to engine.
So, power source is at starter relay. Check connection there. If you have a volt meter - use it. If not, rig up a 12V light and use it. Find the bad connection - starting at the starter relay. I guess that the lights (head lights, radio, etc.) work.
So, carefully clean battery power leads. The problem is in that part of the electrical system.

u need to take apart the center console..once u remove the cup holder u need to file down the little nibble just a tad bit and it will work just fine

there are 4 screws. two in the front behind the cup holder and two up underneath in the cupholder bay after the cupholder is removed. they are phillips head and 8mm I believe. this is all you need to remove the cover.

look under the drivers rear seat for the rear fuse block it will be under a black box right there

Should be screws hidden under plugs that are the same color as the plastic. Try to remove cup holder etc there should be little pop outs. I will check on one of the kias in the lot. send me a response so I can put you at the top of the list.
