first check the solenoid or battery terminal is loose, check the battery cable also make sure that transmission is in park and make sure battery is fully charged. you want to make sure you check all the above before replacing the starter. you can get a starter from a salvage yard if needed

TO ME IT SEEMS TO BE THE PROBLEM WITH THE STSRTER SOLENOID WHICH CAN BE OPENED AND REPAIRED AS THE POINTS MUST HAVE SLIGHTLY BURNT OUT OR HAVING CARBON DEPOSIT

we had the same issue in a ford explorer and it was fixed by cleaning the negative connection to battery-possibly not making full negative connection!

My dad has a 93 lincoln town car that wont start

The selonoid is on the Starter which could be the problem.its proberbly sticking. Make sure its out of gear and when you turn the key get someone to tap the starter with the end of a bar or big spanner or if you can get at it a hammer.

The wont start when u turn the car

Check your battery for voltage. Should be at least 12.5 V. If it stays there when you try to start put the trans, in neutral and try to start, May be you neutral safety switch. If still nothing try tapping the starter motor with a hammer and try starting. If it starts you have a bad starter. Alway's check you cable ends on the battery for carrosion, Wish ya luck!

Car wont start

Does the battery have enough capacity to turn over the engine though? Even flat car batteries will still power the radio. The best way would be to jump start the car uing a set of jumper leads. If it starts you know it is the battery that needs replacing.

If it still wont turn over then it is most likely the solenoid in your starter motor. You can often tap the starter motor with a hammer and free the solenoid as a temporary fix. The starter motor is loacted at the back of the engine on the bell housing if rear wheel drive, or around the tranmission if a front wheel drive.

1992 Lincoln TC Wont Start

Your battery seems to be dead. The lights on the dash need almost nothing to light up but once you try to crank it up - the starter takes a ton of voltage and the lights on your dash die.
Have you tried to start the car with the door open?
When the door is open the dome light is on, and when you try to start the car it goes off, right?
If your answer to the last question is "YES" - have your car battery changed.

Good luck.
