I have a 2012 honda civic the speedometer is working. The odometer does not show up on the display. I tried the menu and i button but neither one of them solved the problem. What else can I try.

On the dash display. it shows the clock time and radio station. However underneath it does not show the odometer. Jayne

I also have a Honda Civic 2012, and the very same thing happened just this afternoon, but while I was turning on the engine I heard a weird sound I cannot describe, then realized the display wasn't showing normal, I tried the very same things jaynestovall tried, but nothing worked, so now I am trying to find out if there is a specific fuse on the owners manual....did you take it to the dealer, or what was you outcome??

SOURCE: 1995 honda accord speedometer and odometer not working

Sounds like either your speedometer cable, your nylon gear on the side of the tranny where the cable ties in, or the odometer itself is shot. One of those three will set you straight. If you are able, remove the cluster, take the cable off the back, and pull it out of the sheath. You will see if its broken or not from there. If not, slide it back into the sheath, then you have to find out where the sheath meets the tranny, and pull it off of there. Then, you can get someone else to watch the speedo as you turn the cable from the bottom. If it works, great, if not, then its your cluster/odometer/speedo. If it does work, the small gear in the transmission is shot.

SOURCE: Car speedo & odometer sometimes work OK, other times not at all.

Most likely a speed sensor is going bad (most cars and truck do not use mechanical speedometer cables anymore) most sensors are located near the differential in rwd cars or near the drive shaft on the transmission. Best bet is to get a Haynes manual for your car to help locate the speed sensor. Remove it and take it to the auto parts store so you can visually compare it to the replacement. Install the new speed sensor and it should restore your speedometer and odometer.

2012 Honda Freed odometer not displaying but everything else is okay.

This is an unknown model in North America where we are. Does the speedometer work? If it does work, the issue is a communication issue from the ECM. If neither speedometer or odometer work, it is the Vehicle Speed Sensor (VSS).

You need an auto electrician to diagnose with a pro grade scan tool computer.

My 92 honda civic speedometer works only half the time

check the connection from speedometer to transaxle. Often this becomes loose, especially the transaxle side. Also 92 was a first year model and have heard many wacky problems.

Look on the wiring harness it plugs in on top of the transmission
make sure all the wires are together. If every thing is ok with the wiring, The sensor is the only thing it could be. A gook used spedometer sensor from the junk yard will work this sensor dosent take a lot of abuse so a good used one will be cheap and work just fine. This is a job you can do your self and save a lot of money. I had the same problem with my 95 civic
