The fusablelink is located under the hood, when replaced the first time it lasted for approx. 30 days. I have replaced two other times as it does not last any longer. The vehicle will start and idle, however when the fuse is blown it will not shift and the brake/tail lights, as well as the dash lights, and door locks do not function. I have checked all other fuses and wires that I can see to check for any burned wires, I did this because when the fuse went out after the first time I smelled smoke/something burning. I have only attempted to replace the fusable link to fix the problem as i am by no means an electrician. If you could help help me out as to what is casing this and how to fix and maybe an idea for parts and labor, i would be very appreciative. Thanks again. Dameon Day
1st in order to help u I need to know what the fuse link supplies power to, it sounds like the transmission shift solenoids, there are most likely four of these, they are inside the trans mission, it is possible that the solenoid's have a heat related short in there closing coil, this coil when it shorts would draw allot of current.amps and easily blow the fuse link, the other item would be the wiring harness to the transmission has rubbed through on the frame or body of the car, these types of shorts are related to engine movement and can be duplicated by holding the brakes and shifting from drive do reverse and applying power to move the engine around, check this as well.
Hi and welcome to FixYa,
Initially, try to remove the 3 wire alternator connector. Replace the 30 amps AM2, start the car. If it runs without blowing the 30 amps fuse, have your alternator checked/bench tested.
Good luck and Thank you for using FixYa.
If you smelled smoke you probably have a short you will need to do some more extensive searching to find the burned\shorted wires.
