I turn the ignition key forward and nothing from the starter. I turn the ignition on and was able to do the screwdriver trick on the starter to get it to turn over. It started and ran for about three seconds then died. Replaced the battery a week ago. I can get the starter to engage with the screwdriver but engine wont start. Not sure why the starter wont engage by turning on the key but bypassing the ignition and able to engage starter at the solenoid with a screwdriver but car wont start?
Do you have a Chip in the Key? if so that Could be the Problem,Ya see the chip is a resistor and if it looses its ELECTRONIC VALUE in its Case Resistance it wont start to test this Turn the Key in the ON posission then do the Screwdriver thing If it Starts Key is Good and Most Likely the Ignition (SWITCH) is Bad <<ELECTRICAL Side NOY LOCKEST SIDE For More Info Recontact Me

It turned out to be the lock out cylinder had to be replaced and the computer reprogrammed.

My 1998 Buick LeSabre suddenly would not start. Lights do not dim when trying to start. The security light flashes when the ignition is turned to run, as well as a steady engine "check" light and a steady "temp" light and a steady battery light and a steady oil light next to the oil pressure gage. I tried a second key and the symptoms repeat. I am thinking possibly an ignition switch with a bad Pass-Key resistor sensor. The Pass-Key fuse in slot 1A is OK. Any thoughts, checks to verify theory, repair procedure? Is the repair specifically dealer recommended or is this a potential

My 1998 Buick LeSabre will not start either. It runs for about 3 seconds when I do the screwdriver test. I replaced the lock cylinder and I have a new key with a chip. I checked the fuses. They are all okay. Still will not start. Anybody have any ideas?
