I have a 2000 Taurus and it wont fire. It turns over but wont fire

The power steering fluid has nothing to do with the backfiring. Need to know why you think the timing is off. is there something else? If you have not played with the timing, backfire could also be an electrical cross fire issue. Have the compression tested to make sure the timing chain is not the issue. If the compression tests good, all the valves and the timing is working. Recommend you look at the spark plug wiring and replace if wet or damaged.

do you hear the fuel pump working? and did you check the fuses? also check and see if the fuel cut of switch is on. it was typically located in the trunk by the hinges that hold th trunk or on the side but look in your owners manuel or google it. i would guess fuel pump in honesty.

The firing order is 1-5-4-2-6-3-7-8,according to my Chilton manual. The distributor turns counter clockwise and #1 is to the driver's side of the back clip. Hope this helps.

try changing the fuel filters if you havent already. Assuming your getting spark it should start if you also are getting furel.

I would check the cam and crank position sensors. If it is not getting info from one of them there will be no spark.

What you do is take either and old sparkplug from the car or pull one from the car and connect one of the sparkplug wires to it. Then with an insulated set of pliers hold the sparkplug so the electrode is grounded. Then have someone crank the car over. This is best done at night so you can see if there is a spark. During the day however you should be able to here a spark. If not probably a bad coil.
