I have a lexus is 250 with a tiptronic auto box when im coming downhill the car is hunting/jerking and never done it before.the gearbox is smooth but when you drive on the highway for a long time and

read the owners manual on the operation of a tiptronic box. It will probably state that the manual selection of the box is for keeping the gear box in set gears to prevent unnecessary gear changing. So when going down hill select a gear manually and that will use the engine braking capability instead of up shifting as the rpms increase
It is fun to use the tiptronic as a manual box but that is not the real purpose of the transmission design.. IT is to lock the transmission into certain gears to prevent unnecessary up and down shifting of the transmission

I have a P0705 Transmission range sensor malfunction on a 2005 lexus. How do I fix this?

The car has a Tcm, tranny brain.
if it TCM sees , dead sensors or a slipping tranny , it tells you.

range slection means just that.
the shifter is in one gear, and the PRNL switch is fibbing.
a contra diction,
as always bad wires, and connectors.
and shifter linkage not adjusted right.
and last a bad PRNL. switch assy on the side of tranny.

the PRNL sends a binary code to the ECU.
some codes are illegal'
eg; in neutral and drive at same time,? sure.

all this and vastly more, at alldata dot com.
no affliation at all.
mitchels is same. both excellent as is the FORD FSM.

Regarding the problem, refilling transmission fluid is only forst step in troubleshooting.

The problem is often either the shifter console, the transmission control unit (TCU computer module), or a faulty transmission box itself.

Next step in troubleshooting is doing a code scanning. An OBD II code scanning can be done at home or at any garage, but to do a complete code scanning that includes scanning of transmission control module you need a Vag Com tool. This is expensive and it is available only at the dealer place or at a VW/Kia authorized garage. Scanning is usually billed half hour labour, and it is not expensive.

I wrote an article on same problem here. Disregard the part on "stuck in park". Article was originally written for Mercedes. Things are not too different with the Kia carens tranny.

Job is carried doing in order:

  1. OBDII code scanning, then TCU scanning.Testing for fault indicated in codes if needed.
  2. Bleeding and refilling transmission fluid.
  3. Removing cover and checking shifter lever state and conditions.
  4. Checking for tranny fluid leaks in vacuum system.
  5. Testing the TPS (throttle position sensor).
  6. Checking transmission shift solenoids (in valve body), wiring and TCU operations.
  7. Checking the transaxle itself for malfunctions.
Job bill may start from one or two hours garage if you have some silly problem like faulty TPS, and if problem is spotted at start. Repair can get very expensive if you have for example a defective gearbox.

Regards.

Ginko.

Automatic "Tiptronic" type shifter will not go into drive (and sometimes park) when warm.

where ever any common mechanic is trying to convence you have got 2stop. make sure your car gets looked at by an audi tiptronic specialist make sure you get them to sign the actual diagnostics and the codes to match the repairs if logical but remember " tiptronic transmission" your problem it'll star with the selector assimbly

Tranny slips occasional on up shift. clunks on 4-3-2-1 downshifts

If your TT is quattro it is DSG, if it is FWD then it is Tiptronic.. A battery change usually requires a trip to the dealer to hook up the scan tool and program the TCU for the transmission...
And yes a lower voltage can affect the sensitive electronics in this car..

2006 Jetta TDI Tiptronic Maintenance

The tiptronic is not the DSG - two separate transmissions. You don't need to service the tiptronic every 40k like you do the DSG.
VW considers the fluid in a Tiptronic tranny as "lifetime" fluid - it doesn't need to be changed.

Will a 2001 E4OD transmission fit my 96 F150

I would say that physically the transmission may fit due to the engine sizes being the same, but the 96 F150 is a E4OD transmission and the 01 is a 4R70W transmission, they do not work the same electrically.

Checkengine light is on,very slow off the line, not shifting right

I have the exact same problem. Does it hesitate of the start and then take off? I put an OBD II scanner on mine and it is saying that it is the 1st gear shift cellinoid. Cost's about $350 installed.
