I have a 1999 GMC Suburban 1500 with the 2wd and the 4l60 E transmission never seems to shift into 3rd gear. In drive it doesnt want to shift into 2nd and just slips out of gear at about 30mph. If I place the gearshift selector manually into 2 it drives without slipping but maxs out at about 40mph. Do I need a complete rebuild? Is it the solenoids that need replacement or? Thanks for any assistance!
I had this exact problem on my 2005 5.3L Suburban... It would shift into 1 and 2 and reverse, but not 3 and 4.
I took it into a transmission shop, and he said the 3-4 shift solenoid was burned up. Wanted 1500 to fix it. Far from home, so I have to pay it.
Yes your selinoids need replacing. I found the awnser to this question in the search for my own issue. This awnser came from one who just spent 2 months trying everything else..
I dont have a solution. more of a problem. i have a 1999 gmc sierra was driving highway speeds all of sudden started reving higher then should like slipping and speed wouldnt go over 40 and when i came to stop and took off again it wouldnt shift into 3rd gear. it shifted to second fine.

I have the exact same problem, only 8000 miles on my crate, god I hope its something that simple. John
how much will it cost for the selinoids to be replaced on a 1999 gmc suburban c1500
Just fixed other multi-function switch problems but now the transmission only goes from 1st to 2nd and no higher, reverse is fine. Sounds similar to other posters. I'll look into the solenoid.
my question would be which solenoid, there is the converter solenoid, 1-2 shift solenoid, 3-4 shift solenoid, speed solenoid
which solenoid there are 4
changes dilter and solenoids
changed to solenoids and filter
changed 2 solenoids and filter
My car wont drive in drive but it will drive in shift 2 do I need a new transmission?
