sounds like ignition module inside of distributor cap under distributor rotor button.these do go bad and can easily be replaced.strong suspicion from your details that this is the culprit.

SOURCE: 1992 CHEVROLET PICKUP HOW TO REPLACE DASH LIGHT BULBS

Below the steering column is an access panel, or a cover. It is held in place with four Philips screws. One in each corner. Remove it. (Keep track of those screws. They have a special washer made onto them!)

Now you can reach up under the dash more easily, and feel for the dashlight bulb holders. You have to lay on your right side on the floorboard, twist your upper body to the left, and stick your arm, and hand up in there. This will be so much fun, that you'll want to get a second job doing just this! (NOT!)

Since you've never done this before, (If I'm correct), I'll try to explain what you're feeling for.

To explain what a dashlight bulb holder looks like.
Looking at the bulb socket side, it is a round shaped piece of plastic about the size of a nickle.
There is a socket in the middle, and the miniature
lamp bulb pushes down in to install.
Looking at the backside, where your fingers will be touching, it looks like a knob on a gas stove. It has a protrustion in the middle, that is shaped in a rectangle.

The bulb end that inserts into the bulb socket, narrows down to a flat tip. Should be a 194. Looks like this,

The bulb holder has one crude thread on it. To remove it, you turn it one-quarter turn, then take it out. As you face the dash, turn it to the right.
Once you get one out in your hand, you'll see what I meant about the shape, why it was hard to describe, and how crude my explanation probably is.
REPLACE one bulb at a time!

Hope this helps you in some way.

SOURCE: Chevy S10 Pickup Starter. Removed the two bolts

Just changed a starter in a 94 S10 4x4. The only way to remove the starter was to take the passenger side exhaust manifold off and bring the starter out that way. Installation the same in reverse. Hope this helps. Don

Which fuse is for cargo light on a 1988 Chevy s10 pickup?

The cargo light is tied to the interior/dome lights. If you have a dome light then the bulb is bad or it has a broken wire. If not, then check the dome light fuse. In the fuse panel under the dash.

I had a similar problem I had to fool around with the circuitry of the way the signal gets to lights. pull a bulb and try to replace the one that seems to be burning out and if the problem still persist after checking all the bulbs and replacing the ones that may be burnt (you will see discolaration or blackness on the bulb itself) then it could be the turn signal switch itself $150 to replace and a couple of hrs to replace because the harness is located under the dash and has to be removed to get to the harness as well as the airbag being disabled.
