SOURCE: Subaru Engine Vibration

I'd suspect a vacuum leak in the inlet manifold, check to see if any vacuum lines might have fallen off. This can cause a lean misfire at idle, but often it's not enough of a leak to make it lean enough to misfire at higher rpm. If a leak is not obvious, check if it is a leak by buying a can of engine start (or even CRC will do) and spray it all around the inlet manifold. If the idle smooths out while you're spraying then then goes rough again, it is a leak. By spraying in specific areas you can narrow down the area of the manifold or gasket that is leaking.

Hope this helps.

SOURCE: Clutch replacement details for 1996 legacy GTB

Trust me it is quite an excercise and not worth doing yourself. With the proper tools, a hoist and a my mate who is a Guru Subaru Mech it took 4 hours. Without having done it before and without the Hoist ( which is wha I was going to do initially ) I'd say you wouldn't get much change out of 8 - 12 hours.

heavier oil if you are not in a cold climate. but before you do that have the oil pressure checked. We used to use a can of STP every once in a while on a motor in a dodge we had... nothing wrong with it... was just noisy.

2005 Subaru Legacy 198K miles intermittent stalling starts to idle rough. Putting it in neutral and giving gas will keep it from stalling. The check engine doesn't come on and there aren't any faults.

My 91 Subaru legacy automatic transmission won't go from a stop but picks up after that low rpm at 5 what should I do and check for

I'm not really sure what your asking. "but picks up after that low rpm at 5" ??????

But if your saying the engine goes to 5000 rpms before the car starts to move then you have a real serious problem. If you are real lucky it's just a clogged filter on the transmission. The filter is a standard oil filter type installed on the left side of the transmission. Very easy to change. Try that first. If it still does it after the filter change, I'm afraid you have MAJOR transmission problems.

By the way, you did check the transmission oil level when the car was running, right?

Hi my 91 subaru legacy was going jujst fine and then all of the sudden while i was pushing on the pedal , the car just stopped moving and died. and wont start back up. wont even turn over.

Hi Reese, what do you mean by "won't turn over"? Does the engine rotate but not fire, or does it not even rotate? If it won't rotate, perhaps your alternator belt was loose or worn and the battery didn't get charged. If the battery is good and the engine rotates, then the alternator has possibly died. The other possibility, is that the fuel pump had died.

My 91 Subaru legacy AWD Auto doesn't shift w/o letting up on gas pedal or it shifts slowly it will free wheel id you floor it or in OD you let off gas and it free wheels until you give it gas and it...

sadly the early version of the 4 speed is prone to this type of failure. I have owed 4 that had this exact problem. the rear end of the main transmission case wears down at the transfer case and this causes an internal leak. The loss of fluid pressure causes the loss of function. I'm confident that a good transmission shop can fix this by using a case and parts from a newer version of the 4 speed auto

Changed o2 senser the rpms are running high. dosent feel like trans. it changing gears, can go 40mph but runs at 5rpms

Look for a vacuum leak around the engine. you can do this with a propane torch, NO FLAME, just the gas will change the way the engine runs when you get near the leak.
