2004 Honda civic has lighting issues: Pressing the brake pedal the front marker lights turn on and so do the dash lights as well as the rear brake lights. When the column light switch is turned on, the brake and marker lights as well as the dash all light up and when the brake pedal is pressed, the brake lights don't get any brighter- I believe that they are already on.

Hey Bro check little plastic bushing on brake pedal under the dash see if it's broken, if so that could be your problem get a new one that works the switch for the rear brake light hope that helps

The brake light switch under the dash is compressed by the brake pedal when not in use, that should be the issue. You can check the voltage at the switch next to the brake pedal to verify voltage.

This sounds like Brake Light Switch, can be found at any local parts store, for under $15 and easy enough to replace. The switch is located under the brake pedal and depresses when you hit the brakes, causing the brake lights to turn on. Replacing this is cheap and easy.

Herbie, sorry by my English. It is very simple to solve :):) of course after I breaking my head. That's the explanation and solution:
1 - When we pressing the brake pedals in our mind it looks we are pressing a switch which cut the "contact". In really is the opposite! Everytime we pressing the pedal we are realeasing (or making free) a light switch and making contact. It means everytime you do not pressing the pedal the pedal is cutting the light contact.
2 - Go down the steering whell area and look the brake pedal. You will see that there is and bolt/nut threated at brake pedal stopper. Look the brake pedal and you will se there is an empty hole. On that hole should to be a white plastic peace which looks like an arrow. That peace it has to be assembled for behind the pedal and the "arrow" may be touching the bolt/nut.
3 - The reason why you light it stay on is because the lack of the white peace it makes de metal do not touching the bolt/nut area. This gap it turns the lights on.
I only found the peace at Honda Dealer and is cheap if you considering the problem but it is expensive if you considering how simple and small it is.

Sounds like an earth / ground wiring problem at the rear lighting units, when the flashers are on and you press the brake pedal the power is back earthing through the flashers. Check all earth/ground points at the rear lights.....Good luck hope this helps
