I have a 2000 Honda Passport 4x4 w/ a V6. My serpentine belt broke while I was making a 150 mi trip out of town. My friend did me a favor by putting a new one on with a new tensioner as well. However, I didn't have my repaire manual with me at the time and I couldnt tell you if he did it right or not. I believe it to be a NOT though. My book doesnt have a diagram could you please help me out alon with repair steps?

SOURCE: How to get the timing belt off a 97 Honda Passport?

Ok this is pretty simple first of all this vehicle has a hydraulic tensioner so will nee to loose the two bolts that holds the hyraulic tenisor and remove tensioner completely and belt will become loose and can be removed. Its recommended that you change this tensioner when you do a timing belt job at about 60,00 miles. However if you choose to re-use tension it can be compressed(pushed back in with a bench vise and can be held in place for installion by a very skinny allen key of a wire type brake clip or something of that sort. Here is a diagram of your timing marks, conatct if you need more help Good Luck and thanks for using

SOURCE: how does one remove the belt tensioner off a 2001 honda passport?

14 or 15mm socket to release tension. Use socket with leverage bar push/pull towards driver side. Will notice tension releasing, pull belt. Use 5/16 allen wrench for bolt in center, 12 mm socket for mounting bolt. Remove bolts, remove tensioner.

What would cause a serpentine belt on my 2000 Honda passport to keep coming off?

There could be several reasons why the serpentine belt on your 2000 Honda Passport is coming off, including:
  1. Loose or damaged tensioner: If the belt tensioner is loose or damaged, it can cause the belt to slip off.
  2. Worn or damaged pulleys: Worn or damaged pulleys can cause the belt to slip, resulting in belt failure.
  3. Misaligned or loose belt: A misaligned belt or a belt that is too loose can cause it to come off.
  4. Improper belt size or type: Using an incorrect size or type of belt can cause it to slip or come off.
  5. Engine vibration: Excessive engine vibration can cause the belt to loosen, leading to belt failure.
  6. Engine overheating: Overheating the engine can cause the belt to expand and slip off.
To determine the cause of the problem, it's recommended to have a mechanic inspect the serpentine belt system on your vehicle.
