Car stalls at stoplight or while approaching light approx.2-3 times a week. it won't start right away but 3 minutes later starts right up. had it scanned last week and no codes come up. maybe map sensor or throttle body need cleaning? my mechanic wants me to leave car with him so he can drive it around a little. i want to avoid dealer service dept. due to expense. it had complete tune up last week (plugs, wires, dist. cap and rotor). any ideas? thanks in advance.

Check the main relay. They have been know to cause this problem when they get hot. Also check the Top Dead Center sensor.

Do not waste money on dist cap and wires at this point. The problem is more likly in the ignition primary curcuit. Meaning anywhere from the distributor primary impulse detecftor to the computer that manages the timing of this primary curcuit that ultimatly goes to the ingition coil. It will be more cost effective to go to a shop that has the product specific information and diagnostic tools to sort out this problem.
good luck

It can be a problem with one of the injectors. What is odd it that the ECU has not set a code for a misfire. I would have the ECU scanned even if your check engine light is not on. With a misfire the ECU should have set a code on which cylinder is missing. I would suspect one of the injectors is malfunctioning.

then i would replace whats called the hall effect sensor its that black plastic plate you see when you take dist cap off. just pull rotor and lift up the sensor.dist cap is what holds it on.also under the sensor will be a stamped sheet metal piece that looks like the top of a castle wall. make sure its not loose on the shaft.if it is then new dist will be needed
