By mistake i put petrol instead of diesel on my 2004 VW Golf SDI 2.0L. at the garage they told me to fully fill the tank with diesel and everything will be ok. So I did as I was told. the car did swith on, although it took a while. As it turns out not everything was ok. Today the exhaust system warning came on. What should I do?

You have damaged the exhaust carbon trap most likely, you might try resetting the light and running it for a week and see if it clears itself, you may get lucky

2004 VW golf 2.0 SDI manual. I turn engine on and

I would get a diagnostic check done on it as could be a number of things, is your engine management light on or does it come on at any point.
tip

I put petrol in my diesel car

If you accidentally put petrol into your diesel car there is an unbelievably easy fix for it.
firstly get a paper coffee/tea cup(sold in most garages) fill it with any type of engine oil and add it to your diesel tank.(apply it in two half-cup measures and you will not spill it everywhere), then fill your tank with diesel. your engine might splutter a bit but the engine oil will compensate for the petrol and it should correct its self. Do this again the next time your tank will take a few gallon of diesel and it should be fine.

I mistakingly put some diesel in my petrol swift

You don't say how much diesel you put in or how much petrol was in tank in the first place. If the amount of diesel is less than 5 % of the total then you may try filling tank with petrol and keep topping up to dilute the diesel. The best fix would be to drain fuel tank completly and refill with petrol. If tank has a drainplug , this will be easy but if no drain plug you will have to remove tank from vehicle to empty it.

2001 vw golf gt tdi is struggling to start when cold and sometimes hot..when started it struggles 2 stay ticking over at 900 revs...what can i do??please help

golfs coldstart system works when you open door/shut door/put key in hole and turn on (in that order)if you delay puting belt on for longer than say 30 secs the coils go cold, hence poor starting.if engine labours after cold start try using (really)one gallon of petrol in tank to clean injectors.
british army put petrol (30%)in diesel tanks of challenger tanks in arctic
to stop fuel freezing.....most parts replacement jockeys in garages will say if you put diesel in tank it will have to flushed out.lot of bollocks.
trust me.have put petrol in by mistake loads of times, only get hot start
problems if you put in too much.

Engine light has come on my golf sdi ...in the manual it seems to relate to a petrol engine but mine is a diesel

Hi panchoharris
You need to have the OBD codes scanned to establish for certain the cause of the light coming on. It is the only way to be 100% sure.

Hi. i have a 2004 2.0 gt fsi and it sounds like a diesel

the FSI engine is a direct injection engine and they can be noisy particulaly on idle ,if you have no other issues like warning lights lack of power and its always been like it then i sugest it is the nature of the beast .this is not ******** i am a vw master tech and have had many a conversation with customers about noisy FSI engines.hope this puts your mind at rest, alternativly go to VW dealer and get them to take a listen to confirm its normal.cheers

Petrol instead of diesel

Hi

This is not quite recommended, and to do a 100% job, you should really drain the tank, and refill with just diesel, and renew the fuel filter.

But if it is running acceptably, drive it gently, and keep refilling with diesel.

Good Luck !

Don´t forget to give me a FixYa rating please.

John.
