SOURCE: 1998 chevy lumina brake lights intermittent.

This is a classic example of turn signal switch failure. On GM vehicles with a multi-function turn signal switch and combination stop/turn/tail lights (all rear lights are behind red colored lenses except for back-up lights) The brake light power is routed through the turn signal switch. This makes it possible for the right rear light to function as a stop light while the left rear turn signal flashes, and vice-versa. When the contacts fail to remain constant the brake lights, and turn signals can become intermittent. The proof that the brake light switch is functioning correctly is that the high center (cyclops) brake light functions properly. Wiring integrity is verified if you can prove that turn signals operate, but that can still be intermittent with this complaint, BUT if you use your hazard switch to turn on all the signals at once, you can verify wiring integrity. This is because the turn signal, and the brake light use the same circuit, and bulb filament in the rear lighting assembly. If any Hazard lights fail to function, check bulbs first, then retest. If all Hazrd light flash correctly and reliably, bulbs, sockets, and wiring have proven integrity, and the turn signal switch is the remaining component in the system which needs to be tested. Unfortunately, this switch requires disassembly of the steering column for service, testing or replacement. If you have never disassembled, and successfully reassembled a GM tilt steering column, I would reccommend professional assistance.

SOURCE: Chevy Cavalier 2001 turn signal blinks fast

If new bulbs don't work, it is probably the harness that holds the bulb. I had to replace both on my car after fighting with the problem for over a year and not knowing.

SOURCE: my 1998 chevy lumina brake

I've had this problem. I tested everything and in my situation it was the four way switch that controls the blinker/high low beams/cruise control. If you depress the peddle, push the blinker lever forward or backward slightly you may see the brake lights come on. you would then know this switch is worn.

SOURCE: I need a firing order for a 95 chevy lumina apv

I sincerely apologize for the late response...Due to the bad economic situation this site has had a substantial (+50%) increase in the number of questions being asked in the last four months.

Not sure if you have the 3.1L or 3.4L Engine, however I have included both below:

For the 3.1L:
Firing Order:
1-2-3-4-5-6
Cylinder:
1------3-------5
2------4-------6
(Front of Vehicle)
Ignition Connections
| 5 - 2 | | 3 - 6 | | 4 - 1 |
(Front of Vehicle)

For the 3.4L:
Firing Order:
1-2-3-4-5-6
Cylinders:
1------3------5
2------4------6
(Front of Vehicle)
Ignition Connectors:
| 1 - 4 | | 3 - 6 | | 2 - 5 |
(Front of Vehicle)

Again my apologies...

How do I fix my left turn signal light. It will not blink in my chevy Lumina 91 help please

Try the easiest first, turn on the 4 way flashers and walk around the car to see which corner might have a burned out bulb. Replace the bulb if you find a light that is out. Check the owner's manual for procedure to change bulb.

95 Chevy lumina van, heat on won't turn off. A/c

Hi wodermom26,

Your Lumina APV is a clone of the Pontiac Transport and Oldsmobile APV's which all have identical Heater & A/C controls. The Heater & A/C controls usually wear out mechanically causing no control of temperature. This is a difficult repair and is best made by a dealers ASE Certified Technician. A/C may require re-charging and or possible replacement of the hoses which carry the refrigerant as they become porous and leak. Additionally, the Compressor and its Clutch may possibly require replacement.

The High beams are controlled by pushing the Turn Signal switch forward toward the Instrument panel and have a momentary "Flash to Pass" function by pulling the Turn Signal Lever upward toward the steering wheel and return to Low Beam upon release of the turn signal Lever. If neither function of the Beam selector lights the High Beams it is pssible that the Headlamp bulbs are burned out or open connections in the wiring harnesses. Do you have an owners manual for your Lumina? If so it has information regarding the Multi-Functions of the Turn Signal Lever.

I have changed my brake switch, fuses, and bulbs in my 1997 chevy lumina and the brake lights still will not work at all, my signal lights only work. What could be the problem?

here is howw it goes, the power from the fuse goes to the brake switch then to the signal light switch and from there to the rear lights, test for signal from the brake switch to the turn signal, if good the signal switch is bad

Where is the location of the fuses on 1990 chevy lumina apv. i need to replace the fuse for the cigarette lighter

there are 2 areas that i would check for location of the fuses, 1 is under the instrument panel, on the drivers side, the other is under the hood , also on drivers side, in a black box, there should be fuses and relays there.

I have brake lights and hazard lights. i do not have turn signals. in dash indicators for hazard lights come on, not for turn signals. fuses look fine and i found 1 signal bulb in the rear that needed...

If the fuse is ok then I would look into replacing the turn signal switch. This is not a very difficult task at all. If you have the hazards then your flasher unit would be ok. If there is only one bulb out then you are probably looking at the switch.
