The car runs great but often stops while slowing down or stopped in idle. Replaced the fuel filter but it almost seems worse. What could this be and how do I do a computer scan for a code? Thank you.
Most likely solution is probably idle sensor.
I had same the problem, car stalling at red light or slow speed, I took it to 5 different mechanics but no one could idenify the problem, because the car runs good when it is at the shop. Then I took it to **** Smith Nissan at Beltline blvd in columbia, SC, the mecahnic took 5 hours to identify the problem, he said its air flow meter and idle control valve problem and would cost me $1500. Then I took it to Altima expert Lowell Hayes at Columbia and he changed air flow meter and fuel filter for only $170 and now the car is running superb....so all u need to do is find some good and cheap mechanics...good luck

So an
So an update,
Please help! The problem is getting worse and not even the Nissan dealership can diagnose. Now, when driving on the interstate the car acts sluggish at times like it is having a fuel problem. Intermittent stops and idling it will stall. There is times that it will drive perfect? The check engine light is not on and I took the car to a Nissan dealer. They said no codes were coming up and when the guy test drove it, nothing! Did mention something about perhaps the computer or distrubitor may have an issue but since there are no codes, it is not feasible to buy these expensive parts not knowing. So he suggest keep driving it until the light comes on or it breaks down. Are you serious! Said all the sensors seem okay and engine is smooth. Could anyone give me a suggestion that may pan out. Thank you for all your help.
I have a 98' altima which is having the exact problem - stalls on idle and sometimes jerks and lurches during accelaration. we cleaned the fuel injector, changed the cap sensor and the idle valve and that didn't solve the problem. The computer doesn't show any codes and the check engine light is not on. the car has been in the shop for almost a month now and still no clue. if anyone has any idea what this mysterious malfunction is please share!
this just started happening to me. I thought fuel filter at first too. I will research the idle sensor from samson-1 above.
I've been having the same problem with my Nissan for the last two weeks. Car stalls when stopped or on acceleration. It's intermittent and seems to only happen when I'm alone in the car. As soon as I leave it at the garage, it performs beautifully. Mechanic thinks it might be the fuel pump. Has anyone looked into that?
I am very disappointed that the people who have posted here have not followed up and let everyone know if they have solved the problem.
