My passenger side light are staying on all the time. I removed the fuse that corresponds to them to no avail. Then I started systematically removing fuses one by one to see if they would go out, and lo and behold, fuse #21 (interior lights, power locks, cigarette lighter) comes out and they went off. With this fuse out they still function normally for everything else. I don't know if this matters, but my hatch is constantly registering open, and a previous owner took out the cargo light in the back so it wouldn't drain the battery. I have reached the limits of my know-how, and hope you guys can help unstuck me. :)

I have a similiar problem occasionally. In my 97 vw, it usually happens when the battery terminals are loose. I just take them off, clean them and reconnect and the problem goes away for several months.

fuses are usually in the glove box or under the drivers dash or under the drivers side hood either physically inspect every fuse by pulling them one by one or the aid of a test light and a good ground to the test light

hi, if the 2 problems happened at the same time then probably your alternator belt has broken, as the power steering is also run off the same belt
Testimonial: "Actually the serpentine belt broke which powers a variety of things, power steering pump, alternator, water pump etc."
