1996 Mazda MPV will not start

MPV will not start, it does not turn over. Replaced battery per recommendation from a mechanic that just completed a front end alignment. He advised he had to jump start the vehicle to get it started when it was in the shop. He did not tell us this until we had problems starting the vehicle two days later. It appears the battery is fine, lights are bright and dash lights come on when turning to key in the ignition. Lights do not go dim when turning the key on. It appears as if no power is getting to the starter. Previous owner advised he had the same problem, and when he took it into the shop they replaced a chip in the distributor. Do you have any recommendations?

It sound like you need a new starter. I am not not sure why they serviced the distributor, but you mentioned the engine doesn't turn over. The only other thing could be a bad neutral safety switch or ignition switch. Have someone check the "signal" wire to the starter for switched power( power when you turn the key to start position). If power is present, I'd replace the starter. If not, check Ign. switch or neutral safety switch. I hope this helps

I have a 2001 Mazda MPV the problem is this it will start fine fir awhile and then I will go out and wont start. Yet if I try it again later it will start up no problem it has got a couple of mechanics...

If it is turning over when it does not start, may be a fuel pump going bad. Gets hot and stalls out and won\'t start till it cools
down. Must be replaced. Check fuel filter as well. Could also be something as simple as a bad battery, starter or alternator connection... Corrosion is a bummer!

I was browsing unsolved problems. If you still have the problem, I'll try to help you. But it's going to be awhile trying to communicate back and forth. First...Check the engine for spark. Take off a plug wire and stick a screw driver in the wire end and place the metal part of the screw driver next to something on the van that's metal. Have someone crank it over for just a second or two and see if a small spark jumps from the screw driver to the metal part. I'll check back for your answer.

My mazda mpv 1996 transmission is slipping what could the problem be

Its usually just the control from the hand lever to the actual transmission. Have your local mechanic look it up. I had a same problem but was fixed in half an hour.

Mazda mpv engine idle problem

I had the same problem with my 2002 MPV. I ended up removing the IAC Idle are-control myself, and cleaning it really well (with some air intake cleaner). Put it back together, and it's been running great for the past year.

Not too difficult of a project, I'm no mechanic, but if your good with tools, it's not to bad.
